The Bachtelweiher Garten is a beergarden and Cafe at the outskirts of Kempten in the beautiful area close to the Bachtelweiher, a small lake. Beside coffee, beer and cake they also serve warm local food.
There are possibilities for kids to play and you will find a minigolf place.

It was a very warm day late in May and a Sunday so nothing we wanted to visit was yet open. We decided to go into the beer garden next to the church and were very glad we did. There were long tables set up under the trees and a lovely cool breeze. Three elderly ladies soon joined us and although they spoke no English and we spoke little German, we all managed to have a grand time together. (In all fairness, my husband speaks quite a bit of German and that really helped.)
Favorite Dish: We both had sausages and sauerkraut and loved it. I'm from a little German town in Ohio and grew up on such food. My husband just likes sausage and sauerkraut. I'm sure I've had no influence on that . . . LOL

The restaurant „Zum Stift“ lies very central, just next to the St Lorenz basilica and the Residence. The beer garden is very nice, with large chestnut trees that provide shadow. Only that live music there wasn’t my cup of tea!
Food was good, too, I had a baked potato with a kind of sour cream sauce and a salad. It only was too much, especially as the salad was so large! My husband had “Fleischkäse” with fried egg, which is something typical German, especially in the south.

The Bayerischer Hof is a 4-stars-hotel which also has a restaurant - and above all a very nice beer garden. The hotel is located at a busy street, but you don’t notice that in the beer garden. You rather hear the fountain! As May is the typical season for aspargus they had several aspargus dishes on their menu, but of course also others. I had “Kässpätzle” (Spätzle with cheese) with onions, which is typical for South Germany, especially the Swabian region. It’s pretty filling! Later the evening it got colder and they distributed some blanked, pretty helpful as we had forgotten our jackets!

The Storchennest (stork’s nest) is a cosy and nice decorated restaurant which offers German/ local food. You could get several of the dishes also as small portion which I found great. I had the turkey steak with rice as small portion which was good and enough for me, except that there was not much sauce. My husband the aspargus toast and also enjoyed it.

We were starting to feel the cold on our walk around town and spotted a sign to this bar. It's underground as the name suggests, but easy to find. Warm and friendly inside, a coupe of beers and a bowl of goulasch soup for me, good vegetarian choice for Mrs Bonio too.
Just what the doctor ordered!

The tap of the Allgäu brewery was close to our hotel so had to visit. Maybe a little more upmarket than we are used to, friendly and comfortable all the same. Excellent food, we had a little trouble with the menu - unusually for us we had to resort to an English one. Tasty vegetarian food for Mrs B as well.

The name of the restaurant gives you a good hint of its origin, 'Stift' can be translated to monastery. The restaurant is located in old buildngs that formerly belonged to Kemptens monastery. Outside you will find a traditional and cosy beergarden that invites on a sunny day.
Favorite Dish: The food here is traditional Bavarian food. It might be good to inform that portions are rather large!
