Lindau is a very walk able town, especially after you get into the actual 'heart' of the city. The harbor and the historical 'old town' are located on an island.... which is nicely separated from the morn modern part of the city.
Once inside the old town, you can wander around, shop, and eat at many local restaurants. The architecture is beautiful and charming! Enjoy!

Well I do not actually mean jump in and swim! But you can still have fun relaxing and surrounding yourself with the local atmosphere. The harbor itself is very beautiful, there is a narrow, but big enough, entrance that is guarded by a monument of a Bavarian Lion and a Lighthouse.

To get incredible views of the city and the surrounding lake region, get your ass up the lighthouse!
It costs about 2 euros and it is worth every penny. Inside, on the way up, you can read (German and English) the history of the area and specifically the lighthouse.
I took these pics from the top:)

The harbour is the landmark of Lindau. In its present shape it is originating from the late 19th century. It is the most attractive harbour all around the lake. From the old harbour the old medieval lighthouse is still remaining while the New Lighthouse and the inevitable Bavarian Lion (promoting Loewenbraeu beer?) watch the entrance to the harbour since about 130 years.

When you arrrive by car park at the big parking after the end of the new road bridge and somewhat ahead along the right side of the city (you are not allowed to enter it by car as a non-resident) and walk along the lake until to the railway station and the harbour and when coming by train turn to the west (right, when looking to the lake). It is a nice park with fine views over to Bad Schachen and to the Swiss Alps at the opposite shore. You may even identify the Rhine delta from here.
On the way is the Pulverturm (Gunpowder Tower), a part of the old fortifications.

From Altes Rathaus walk west along Maxiliianstrasse and turn north to come to Diebsturm. This was part of the old fortification of Lindau.

We went on one of the small cruice boat for about 2 hours. Some really nice view a long the shores of Bodensee. Nice for having a beer, relazing in the sun on the deck of the boat.
