Lederhosen are knee-length leather trousers worn especially in Bavaria and Austria. Bavarian Lederhosen are made mainly of deer and chamois leather. The manufacurer of leather pants is called "Säckler". For a single pair of leather shorts, the skin of two red deer is needed.The leather is tanned with oil and train oil. This makes the leather soft and comfortable to wear.In Bavaria mainly three types of Lederhosen are made: leather shorts, leather breeches and long leather trousers.The original Lederhose has an embroidered flap. The reason, why this flap was added, was: embarrassment! When sitting down, the pants would flap open! To each Lederhose there are two suspenders which are held together by a leather patch at the front.
