You can try by TinKan You can try to drive around the town and try to park in the city center but you will not have much luck. Park in the big parking lots outside of town and walk in to the center. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

After the Zugspitze Seilbahn this is the second best cable car in the area and it's better value for money at 21 euros up and down (2006). It is the second highest cable car after the Zugspitze too. It looks steep as you approach it but it isn't as scary as it might seem. The views from the gondola are stunning and at the top there's a bar(naturally!) and a good area to stroll around and admire the astounding views. There's also a border sign as it marks the boundary with Austria. The gondola holds about 40 people so can be crowded at peak times. It's best to get the return ticket as the walk down is not easy. The bar is self service but sells good food and the beer is good too! Must be the altitude. There's a small terrace outside but it's small and many people sit on the unpaved ground. There are a couple of viewing points where there is no barrier and you don't want to get too close to the edge. On a clear day you can see for miles but in summer it does get very hazy. In the winter the views are clearer but there is a lot of snow! Address: KarwendelbahnDirections: Mittenwald station. Cross the railway and follow signs

You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a wonderful day in Mittenwald. You can just walk through the lovely town looking at all the paintings and enjoying the ambience. There are outdoor cafes for a nice warm coffee . . . or a nice cold beer . . . when you need a rest. There are benches on the street if you just want to sit a while. Every time you look up past the buildings, there are those wonderful Alps just waiting for you to take a picture. Not only is the Leutaschklamm a natural wonder, it is also a geographical curiousity. At the start of your journey into the gorge, you are still in Germany - but it`s only a few steps and you`re over the border into Austria. The funny thing is, you can`t get to the gorge from the Austrian side at all! At the end of this winding gorge, there is a waterfall that flows into water so clear it could only come from a glacier. A walkway that allows visitors to get up close was first built in 1880, but destroyed and rebuilt 4 times leading up to its present incarnation. Even though you`ll get hot on the walk up here (about 25 min from the town center), once you enter the gorge, the temperature drops radically, so don`t forget a jacket! We just loved this - I will upload some pics as soon as they are developed! Leave a Comment Address: Take a right on the Isar Bridge and walk 20 min.Directions: Follow Innsbrucker Str. south from the town center.

Don´t miss the Karwendel Bahn- the rope way! In both winter and summer you can go to the mountain top (2244 meter!). The mountainstation has a small restaurant and café with delicious cakes. You can go for a walk on one of the small paths and just enjoy the beautiful scenery and view over Mittenwald, or go alpine skiing down. Leave a Comment

The church of St.Peter and Paul is one of the main attractions of the town. It was built by Josef Schmuzer between 1738 and 1740. The tower bell was built in 1746. On the facade you can see a fantastic Luftlmalerei made by Matthias Gunther. Leave a Comment

Mittenwald Church by Beausoleil Mittenwald is famous as a violin making center so there are musical references all over town. Some are obvious; others not so obvious. It's fun to look for them. For instance, look at the top of the church tower. On the side is a huge treble clef. It's fun to just walk around looking at all the lovely buildings. It is also a great place to shop for souvenirs. Wood carvings of all sizes (and qualities) are available and it's fun to talk to the craftsmen. What safety bar! by PaulKirk From Mittenwald station head into town past the church and follow signs to the Kranzberg lift. This chairlift will take you up to Kranzberg in a single chair with legs dangling down. At most the height is 100 feet but most of it is nearer 50 feet from the ground. It takes about 10 minutes to ascend and the views are good. You jump out as the chair slows down at the top but there is an attendant to help the nervous or novice. Follow the signs to Bar St Anton and there is a good view of the Karwendel to the east although there are a few trees in the way in places. Bar St Anton sells Mittenwalder beer but also the Josefibock dark beer that's woth a try. Lautersee is signposted and it's a pleasant & easy hour's stroll down throught the woods to the lake. There are four bars on the lakeside and a stroll around the lake would take about 30 minutes. There are nice mountain views particularly in late afternoon as the sun colours the Karwendel in golden light. Walk past the little chuch towards Mittenwald and take the left path down Reintal and the small gorge. The path takes you back to Mittenwald in about 40 minutes. Address: LauterseeDirections: Lautersee and back via Kranzberg
