    Towers of Frauenkirche

by tomeek Updated Sep 12, 2002 194 reviews

Fondest memory: This is another trade mark of Munich, twin tower Frauenkirche, 1 minute walk from Marienplatz. I was trying to make a pic of the church to capture its full size on the pic but found this an impossible task! Surrounding buildings are just too close! Its possible to go up to the tower, entrance fee is 6euros.

    Favorite thing: FRAUENKIRCHE
The Frauenkirche or Church of Our Lady (1648) is a landmark of the city, it appears in most of the postcards.
The church is huge but simple. Much of the original gothic interior has been destroyed or removed partially by contra-reformists. In the crypt, you will find the tombs of the Wittelsbach family, where many dukes and bisshops are buried.
If you enter, don't miss the Footprint of the Devil, in the middle of the church, where, according to the legend, the devil would have been left by the architect (Jörg von Halsbach promised the devil that no window could be seen from inside the church if he helped in the construction. After he completed the building, the architect led the devil to the middle of the church from where you could not see a single window, although all churchgoers would sit in an area where a lot of light came through the windows. The devil would have stamped his foot with so much rage that his footprint was visible in the stone floor.)

    Frauenkirche - the Munich...

Favorite thing: Frauenkirche - the Munich cathedral. Surprisingly shaped towers are seen from anywhere, but it is very difficult to get a full picture of the church. On the walls of the church you can see old stone plates full of gothic letters, next to quite modern plates that warn you about possibility of stone fall from the walls in the case of strong winds.

the monotonous red brick is very Bavarian in its simplicity.

Favorite thing: see the Frauen Chuch. The church is very big so it is very difficult to make the picture of the whole building

Favorite thing: see the Frauen Church, the symbol of Munich. Very impressive building. Don't forget to see the devil's foot mark inside. Mine is a little bit smaller :)
