    Isartor

Favorite thing: There are three town gates remaining in Munich. The most easterly of them is the Isartor, dating back to the 14th century. Careful restoration makes it possible to admire the dimensions and appearance of the original structure. The Isar Gate accommodates a museum honouring the Munich comedian Karl Valentin.

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fondest memory: I had terrible problems remembering the pronunciation of the Isartor when I was there - probably because I heard of it first as the Isar Gate and in my mind kept confusing it with the Ishtar Gate in Babylon. I actually asked one local one day on the street for directions to the Gate and obviously said it wrong. He laughed heartily and advised me to fly with Iraqi Airlines. Ho ho - who says humour is lacking in Germany?!?!
