Favorite thing: One of Munich's most pleasant squares is Odeonsplatz. Two things are likely to catch your eye here right away. The first is the bright yellow color of the Theatinerkirche, the square's Italian Baroque church. Secondly, you're bound to be impressed by the equally Italian-looking loggia structure known as Feldhernhalle, which dates to the 19th century. In addition to these two obvious features of the square, you'll also notice one side of the impressive and enormous Residenz, a former royal palace as well as some great outdoor cafes to lounge awayt the day.

Favorite thing: Feldherrnhalle was built in 1844 in honour of Bavarian army and generals Tily and Wrede. The building was built in classical Florentine style by von Gaertner architect. Feldherrnhalle is situated in Odeonsplatz.

Feldherrnhalle

Favorite thing: Visit Odeonsplatz. Shown here is Feldherrnhalle (Field Marshall's Hall). This is the where of the infamous Beer Hall Putsch of 1923 took place. A bronze plaque commemorates the four policemen who got killed in the clash with Hitler's men.

Favorite thing: My favourite area of Munich is Odeansplatz. This large open square behind mariensplatz is especially nice at nighttime when the buildings are lit up. On the corner of the square at the entrance to the Hofgarten is an old fashioned cafe resteraunt called Tambosi. This is a very old cafe dating from before the war and has been completely refurbished in the style of the 20's. Its great to just sit out on its terrace with a relaxing beer or a coffee and watch people walking around the square.
