Front gates by Tourmaline9 Dachau, Germany, its pretty city on the out skirts of Munich, but it also has a dark side to it and unless you skipped history class from 5th grad to 11th grade, then Dachau should ring in your head as place where Hitler had his Nazis murder Jews during World War 2. You go through school your whole child hood, all they ever talk about in history class is the concentration camps, I remember when i was 15 thinking these pictures arent enough I want to go there some day. The Dachau Concentration Camp, was the first large-scale concentration camp in Germany, the Nazis built it in 1933. In total, over 200,000 prisoners from more than 30 countries were housed in Dachau. Beginning in 1941, Dachau was also used for extermination purposes. Camp records list 30,000 persons killed in the camp, with thousands more who died due to the conditions in the camp. The camp was freed by the 45th Infantry Division of the U.S. Seventh Army on April 29, 1945. These forces were led by Lieutenant Colonel Felix S. Sparks. Dachau was used for many years thereafter as a residence for refugees. Leave a Comment

peaceful Isar days by richiecdisc Everyone goes to the Englishergarten and rightly so, but there are lots of alternatives. Heading down to the River Isar is one of the best of them. It runs right through town and in the southern end of it, near the Zoo, you really get a feeling of being away from the city. It's a bit cold for a real swim but that does not stop the locals, from taking the plunge or shedding their clothes. It is a clothing optional kind of place and just one more reason that locals flock to this place or sunny weekend days. There are bike/hiking paths that run along the river from the city center all the way to neighboring towns, like Grosshesselohe. Best to go during the week to avoid crowds. Leave a Comment

Roof of the Olympic Stadium by IceBear7 Football World Cup 2006 is approaching quickly and Munich is preparing by building a brand new stadium. The existing Olympic Stadium is a beautiful stadium in the middle of a huge park with sport and relaxation facilities, restaurants, beer gradens and a huge tower, built for the Olympic Games in 1972. Literally the newest HIGHlight on the grounds is a tour on the roof of the stadium. Secured with ropes and hooks you climb the roof, walk along safe steps and footpaths and finaly climbing up to the very top and sit down for a few minutes to enjoy the views. You might have silght problems if you don't have a head for heights, but apart from that it is totally safe. It's not even climbing but walking causally, looking down at the football pitch, over to the tower, across the park, to the city and mountains in the distance. Great experience!!! The tour starts with a movie about the construction works of the stadium and especially the roof and overall the whole visit takes about 2 hours. Don't forget to bring a hook to secure your camera to your harness. Leave a Comment

Church in Freising by meteorologist1 Freising is a small city located north of Munich and not far from the Munich International Airport. It is a quiet, traditional Bavarian city, very representative of Germany. You can go there to get away from the noise, tourists, and hustle and bustle of Munich. Relax there and tour the church and eat at the beer garden. Please see my Freising travel page for more information and pictures. Leave a Comment
