Don't blink; you might miss this! by TempNomad There is a tiny off-shoot of the Englischer Garten that has a hidden treasure of two. Located behind the Prinz-Carl-Palais and between the Hofgarten and the Englischer Garten, this garden seems almost forgotten. We didn't meet anyone else in the garden while we wandered about. It's small, but it makes for a pleasant way to cut through to the other side. With sloping paths, and lots of boulders, trees, a turns, the Finanzgarten hides one of the more interesting memorials/tributes I've seen. We encountered this crypt-like tribute to Heinrich Heine on our way out of the Finanzgarten. It's behind a locked gate, but it is definitely an interesting piece of art. It's on the edge of the garden, just off a path. Look for it! Leave a Comment

Kultfabrik by jeoren This huge complex of clubs, bars and eateries is a veritable Disneyland for clubbers, and it has a little something for everyone. Take U-Bahn U5 to Ostbahnhof and exit at the rear to reach the venues at (J-4) Grafingerstraße 6. There is plenty of parking space available on-site. Leave a Comment

Bro on a shorty cuttin' the foam by Nexus7 This is a weird phenomenon on the Isar River in which the river makes waves and people are able to surf them for some time. I've never seen anything like it, and being that I'm from California I thought I'd never see someone surfing in Germany. A little cold I think, but no salt water up the nose. Leave a Comment

Neues Schloss Schleissheim by meteorologist1 This off-the-beaten-path Baroque palace is a must see for visitors to Munich. Beautiful, picture perfect views of the palace. In front of the palace is a large open space filled with flowers and fountains. Located in Oberschleissheim (north of Munich). Please visit my Oberschleissheim travel page for more information. An expensive bedroom! by volarevolare This was lovely, even though part of it was being restored when I visited. The castle is quaint and orpulent in its lavishness. Amazing artwork and richness in the decorations. This was Ludwig's favourite palace and I can see why -- it's really magical and there's the lovely gardens outside! I enjoyed this day trip to the schloss! To see more photos, check out my travelogue! :) Leave a Comment

the glories of militarism by yooperprof This was one of the sites in the city of Munich I remembered the most: it left a lasting impression upon me, much more so than some of the conventional attractions of the city. It was the old Army Museum, a place which alone among central Munich's building was left in its 1945 state with bullet holes and bomb damage. Hence it was in a tattered, semi-ruined condition when I saw it in 1985, forty years on, contrasting greatly with the rest of the inner core. But when I was doing some research to find out the recent history of the army museum, I was little surprised to find out that it has completely renovated and restored. Striking modern additions have been built to surround the old core of the museum, and it now serves as the home of the Bavarian State Chancellery. Leave a Comment
