We had the Sauerbraten here and there is only one word to describe it, INEDIBLE. By far, the worst dish I have ever attempted to eat in my life. It was totally disgusting, it took all my strength to cut it and I thought I was chewing on a leather boot. We were shocked since the resturant looked very nice inside and out, and had many people there. I don't know if this was just a "bad batch" but we were expecting so much more, especially since we were in Germany.
Favorite Dish: Avoid at all cost's.
The Altes Hackerhaus is a traditionel Munich restaurant with typical local food.
It is a nice ambience, warm food until 23:30 Uhr in the evening. It is the principal house of the Hacker-Pschorr Bräu.
Favorite Dish: We had roast duck with Knödel and Leberkäs, Bavarian baked sausage l with potato salad and lot of beer .
We went there for the beer but enjoyed the food as well! The atmosphere was rustic and cozy. It was a slow night so we got a table easily. The menu was in both English and German which made ordering easy. They had a variety to choose from. I enjoyed the Weiner Schnitzel. I would definitely go back.
Favorite Dish: Weiner Schnitzel with pommes frites and salad.
Pleasant places to enjoy your food and beer that are frequented by locals are tough to find. However, if you walk around in the old part of town for some time, you should be able to spot one.
Favorite Dish: I reccomend weisswurst (boiled white pork sausages) and weissbier (cloudy, heavy Bavarian wheat beer). These two go very well together. Apparently, it is "incorrect" to eat the skin of the weisswurst sausage. Although I didn't, perhaps try doing it anyway and see if anyone's outraged :)
Several rooms panelled in dark wood, and a garden courtyard out back, together with friendly service and excellent prices make this a good choice. The main menu is available in English, but the daily special menu isn't. They have a website (hackerhaus.de) which gives details and a menu.
Favorite Dish: Jaegerschnitzel (pan fried pork steak served with a wild mushroom sauce), a small mixed salad and Spaetzle (home made pasta) followed by their own ice cream cup (best in Munich)and a couple of wheat beers. High point of Bavarian living!
The Hackerhaus really is one of the most beautiful and delicious Bavarian cuisine restaurants with wonderful foods and a very nice beergarten in the inner court yard.
They have the full array of Hackor Pschorr beers and has been here since the 1700's.
Favorite Dish: Fantastic array of Bavarian delicacies, take your pick.
