City centre pub / restraurant, always seem to visit on my trips to Munich, maybe I enjoy the food there!
Seems an old, well established place and serves, I think, traditional and very tasty Bavarian food. Looking forward to my next visit.....
Closed until 2015 for major rebuilding - I hope it is worth it
Bayerischer Donisl: Fantastic food at a good price
I headed here for dinner my first night in Munich wanting to try some local fare. The restaurant had a relaxing ambience. People were chatting and laughing, and everyone was happy. My food was delivered to the table quickly enough, I ordered a pretzel starter and a small beer then leberkasse with mashed potatoes for my main. Leberkasse is a type of meatloaf which was delicious! The total bill was around 12 euro
Favorite Dish: Leberkasse with mashed potatoes, good portion size and food was delicious!!!

For good and hearty typical Bavarian food go to the Donisl restaurant on Marienplatz or the Augustiner in the Kaufinger Strasse, which is a little bit more upscale, but very pretty.
Other good Bavarian restaurants are Weißes Bräuhaus, also close to Marienplatz, in the "Tal", or the "Zur Brezn" in Schwabing on Leopoldstrasse.
Donisi: Really very good! just stumbled upon it!
After a long day of traveling from Philadelphia to Munich..taking subways and finding hotel, unpacking, taking a brief 30 minute nap, I headed back out to the city center area and got off the U6 at Marienplaz...walked around ( was a gorgeous day) and then finally got hungry and just found this place as i was strolling around. What captured my attention was the open window where you could look right inside the restaurant... waittresses dressed in old German outfits....looked like a fun place to try out . So i went in and really had a nice meal here. I was tempted to go in again after visiting marienplaz a couple days later, but wanted to try different restaurants
Favorite Dish: Salad with chicken strips........very big tasty fresh salad.
Donisl: Classic Bavarian
Donisl is what we expected in a large German beerhall and restaurant. Munich's oldest, dating from the early 18th Century, seats over 500 on three floors plus extensive outdoor dining just removed from the Marienplatz. Ambience is a tourist's delight - rustic and wooded decor, servers in traditional garb carrying large pitchers of beer, typical music heard in snatches over the general din, large menu filled with German and Bavarian treats - we liked this place.
We enjoyed large entrees - crispy turkey breast and roast pork, sided with great dumplings and roast potatoes respectively along with properly cooked mixed vegetables. The gravy on the pork was spicy yet not overly thickened, a nice change. The menu is extensive. Hacker-Pschorr is the beer of the house. Another restaurant where the entrees were so large that desserts were out of the question.
Favorite Dish: Donisl seemed a surprisingly friendly restaurant even for two obvious Americans. During our stay, our older waitress found an interloper at a reserved table. When he refused to leave peacefully, she grabbed his arm and pulled him away from the table. She did not look like a woman used to being disobeyed and she wasn't. Immediate eye contact with smiles to and from every table in our little section of the main dining room.
Donisl: local food at its best...cheap and yummy
This restaurant just a corner from the Frauenkirche offers for very fair prices typical bavarian meals. Almost all dishes are around 7 Euro.
There are places outside and as well a lot of space inside the restaurant in old bavarian tradition.
Favorite Dish: well, I tried only this (look at the photo), and it was really good. The "Krustenbraten" and the housemade "Kartoffelsalat" (warm potatoe salad) are very recomendable as well.
The Donisl is a well known inn on the Marienplatz. For more than 280 years they have been serving beer and typical Bavarian meals.
I am not quite sure, if it has become a tourist trap or not, but I liked it quite a bit, when we went there! It is crammed with tourists - at all hours of the day!
Favorite Dish: A famous Munich specialty which should be eaten before noon is the Weisswurst. This "white sausage" is heated in close to boiling water. It's deliciouly seasoned chopped veal and bacon and it is eaten with süsser Senf - sweet mustard - and a Bretzel. Against true Bavarian tradition you can still have it a little after noon and it will make an excellent lunch!!.

Donisl: in the very centre
DONISL is a nice restaurant close to Marienplatz and they have a great garden in front to have a beer, while watching the people passing by...
Favorite Dish: Weizenbier - try it and find out wether you like it or not !
And in winter try the Glühwein, in order to warm up, while walking through the Christkindlmarkt on Marienplatz
Donisl: Good both for taste and price
The food is both Bavarian and international. The terrace is rather small but interior is well decorated and nice.
Favorite Dish: Salad and meat dishes
This is a special restaurant where you will find the typical bavarian food for a reasonable price.The food is very very good!!! It is worth trying.
