One of my favorite places to eat downtown is the Weisses Bräuhaus. This restaurant has an impressive regular menu, supplemented by a very long "Tageskarte" (daily menu), featuring traditional Bavarian fare as well as a selection of salads and other lighter choices. The featured beverage is Schneider Weissbier, a dark "hefeweizen" beer (unfiltered beer brewed with wheat instead of barley), which is my favorite in Germany.
Favorite Dish: My favorite meal is the "Bierbrat'l," slices of roast pork in beer sauce with a crispy coating, served with sauerkraut and potato pancakes. You can't get more Bavarian than that!

This is a typical German beerhall/restaurant, frequented by local people at the end of their day's work.
Large communal tables mean that you mix in with whoever's there so you really do get into the atmosphere of the city rather than being isolated as a tourist.
Crowded, noisy, bustling - a great atmosphere to enjoy for an hour or two or a whole evening. The food is excellent too. Menus available in various languages with a wide choice of predictable local dishes. Fast and friendly service from the harrassed waitresses.
Favorite Dish: I had pork cordon bleu, which is ham & cheese wrapped in a thin slice of pork, breadcrumbed and fried. Delicious! Geina had the local bratwurst, sausage, also delicious but too much for her to finish. The house red wine came in a huge glass, about a quarter bottle, for Euro3.50. The pork was E14.50 and the sausage E5.20.

Finally managed to find a seat here after several attempts.
Enjoyed a lunchtime visit busy and friendly with good tasty food. Mrs B did allright for veggi choices too.
Weiss bier is not the only beer option, several to choose from, enjoyed one from Tegernsee.

I have never been confronted with such rude, dismissive and down right aggressive staff in my life. This place is a tourist trap and the staff should be used to dealing with tourists. After circling the place for about half an hour to find a table we were were blanked by four sour faced waitresses for over half an hour.
Living in London, I understand that dealing with tourists can be tiring. Therefore I am polite and patient when in another country, particularly if I dont speak the language. So when I approached a staff member after having waited patiently for so long I did not expect to be screamed at. Literally screamed at.
I think the problem was the 4 staff who blanked us for over half an hour were not the particular waiters for our table. She was. The fact that none of the staff had the courtesy to tell us and her response was to scream was just astounding.
Unsurprisingly we left. Luckily we spent 4 days in Munich and met some really lovely people - if our only experience had been of this place I would have quite the wrong impression of Munich and its residents.
Avoid at all costs, unless of course you enjoy being screamed, or ignored, by sour faced miserable staff.

This place gives anyone visiting Munich who wants to experience good hearty food washed down with some of the best beer in the world, a real treat.
We visited on a Friday night and the place was busy but the waitress approached immediately and seated us near the door politely asking a couple at a table to move up and we shared with them.
Given the number of other happy diners the speed of service was remarkably quick. First came the beer and about five minutes later the food.
There is a good selection of beers both light and dark. Wheat beer was excellent and there are several delicious dark ones too.We worked our way down the list but be aware that many are 8-12% and carry a kick!!You can also buy a fancy glass for a reasonable price with the details on the menu.
The food on offer has a large bias on Pork and the one I went for was deliciously tender and accompanied by saurkraut and small roast potatoes in a nice gravy. There is a good selection of starters and desserts as well but the main course and beer were filling enough for me.
The Weisses Brauhaus is easy to find.Get out the u bahn at Marienplatz, head off the square under an arch with the Viktualmarket on the right and it is on the corner on the left, opposite Macdonalds.

Traditional Bavarian restaurant in historical Brewery building. Two floors, dark floorbaords and wood panelling throughout. Access to the upstairs is via the quirkiest curving staircase you can imagine. Menu is traditional Bavarian, so plenty of crusty pork, chicken ,beef dishes and of course Knodel and Saurkraut. Good selection of offel based dishes for the connoseur. Value for money is excellent, you don't come away hungry and having dined here perhaps a dozen times I have never felt anything but fully satisfied. You can generally get a seat without booking on most nights, but if your'e a party then for sure you need to book in advance. Waitresses are charming and true Bavarian. Good selection of beer, English menus........just LOVE this place and I'll be there again next week mouth watering just thinking about it.
Favorite Dish: Has to be the Schweinebraten, Knodel, Saurkraut. Brezel and Weisbeir on the side. I,ve never managed a desert - but they look as substantial as the main courses

Here’s a hot tip for a slightly less popular Brauhaus in Munich…Check out the Weisses Brauhaus…Located about 200 meter east of the Marienplatz on Tal. (North side, on the corner with lots of outside tables.)
The Weisses Brauhaus is home to the Schneider Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock. This wheat doppelbock has very complex flavors of malt, wheat, and raisins. The aroma is unique in that it has both a fruity and wheat nose to it…And this is one strong beer (12% alc.). Definitely worth seeking out.
The food at the Weisses Brauhaus is also good…I had the Schnitzel with potatoes and gravy…good base for all those Aventinus.
Service is a bit slow…although everybody who works here seems to be happy...There appears to be more wait staff working the tables outside…that’s the best place to sit…great for people watching too.
Favorite Dish: Schnitzel with potatoes and gravy...Meat was tender...Not too dry. Gravy was thick with good flavor.
But here...It's all about the Aventinus.

I heard that Weisses had some of the best local food in Munich. However after seeing the menu I decided that local food was not so much my thing. The menu was very limited- it had a fish dish or two and then all different pork dishes.
The beer at Weisses was pretty good as was the service and atmosphere.
Favorite Dish: The potato pancakes were pretty good but a bit greasy.

From Marienplatz go down the Tal, you'll find the Weisses Bräuhaus on the left side (opposite McDonalds).
Original white beer "Schneider Weisse" (fermented in bottles). Wide choice of typical Bavarian food. Dessert special: ice made of beer "Aventinus".
Favorite Dish: Spinatspätzle

This busy Bavarian 'Wirtshaus' (tavern) is a super place for lunch, dinner or indeed the Bavarian 'second breakfast'. Its atmosphere is cosy and very friendly. Don't be shy about joining another group's table if there are free places - its all part of the fun! This is the best place in Munich I know to taste real Bavarian food in an authentic atmosphere whilst keeping to a modest budget. Try it, you won't regret it!!
Favorite Dish: My favourite is the 'Weisswurst' (Munich white veal sausage). It is bad luck to have this after 12pm, so go early and have it simply with the Breze (pretzels) and german mustard - accompanied of course by the 'Schneider Weisse' Weissbier. This is Munich's original wheat beer and is a stunning brew!
By the way, most portions can be ordered as a 'half portion' which are generally big enough for even a hearty eater's lunch and are only two thirds the full price!
