Each side has a different baby angel killing a monster...dragons, lions...none are safe! This column area is a meeting spot and a hang-out spot. You can overhear some very interesting exchanges here. Get close and check out the strong little angels. Leave a Comment Address: MarienplatzDirections: Right in the middle!

If you want to walk around first, you can start your sightseeing right at the Marienplatz. From here you can find many sights in every direction. You can find the famous Rathaus right at the Marienplatz. It's not far to the Hofbräuhaus, hard Rock Cafe, and other sights. It takes a 10 minute walk to Isar-Tor and Sendlinger Tor. The "Kaufingerstraße" and other streets around Marienplatz are quite good for shopping and have many cafe houses and restaurants. In the heart of Munich is this incredible square that once held the Munich markets, they have since moved, but this is still a wondeful place to people-watch. The New Town Hall, or Neues Rathaus, dominates the square and is 79 meters high (as seen in the picture). Three times a day visitors can watch the famous Glockenspiel. The figures perform the "Cooper's Dance," at 11am, noon and 5pm. This is well worth viewing, a very charming experience. :^) Leave a Comment

Marienplatz has got a great atmosphere at night. You can sit down at any of the cafes outside and listen to a musician or if your like me and you prefer a pint you can head to one of the beer halls in the area although it can get quite smoky in the hall. And make sure to go on a Friday or Saturday night .

Most of Munich's top attractions are found in Marienplatz. A lovely square surrounded by old buildings, churches, shops and cafes, this place is so full of life. Standing in the middle is a column with a golden Virgin Mary on top, next to it is an old gothic building called the Rathaus and not too far is the St Peter's church and a twin-towered red cathedral called Frauenkirche Leave a Comment

The Marienplatz is the city center. The glockenspiel runs at scheduled times daily. Leave a Comment
