Must disagree with RodeKill69 that this tour is for College students only. The great thing about these tour guides is that they tailor their approach to the audience. If RodeKill's group consisted only of chug-a-lug/water-the shrubbery sophomores the guide grooved along. Our large group last summer ran the gamut from a family with 10-12 year olds to folks like me who left university 30 - 40 years ago. Our Aussie guide was amusing, informative, and sensible to folks' varying expectations, so that EVERYONE had a good time.

For first-timers to Munich this could be an excellent orientation to the highlights of the Altstadt (Old Town).
4 hour trips begin daily March through November. In summer 7 hour tours also are available.

    MIKES BIKE TOUR of Munich...

MIKES BIKE TOUR of Munich really is a great way to see the city and if you are an English Speaker its just pefect. It's how I got to see the city properly when I was here first for just two days and I really enjoyed it. Munich is perfect for cycling around and probably the best way to see lots of things quickly. Its great craic and the guides are usually very entertaining! There is nearly always a stop in a beirgarten aswell for a beir or two or three!
If you've spent most of your holiday walking around cittes or using public transport a few hours on a bike is quite a novelty. Also a great way to meet fellow english speaking travellers.

I’m never really one to tout something unless it’s exceptional. I went on the Mike’s Bike Tour in Munich last year (2005) and it was nothing short of a blast. The instructors are pleasant, comical but yet very informative on the city. They took us at a leisurely pace and showed some great points of interest from city parks to old Third Reich buildings and of course stopping for a quick local brew at the Chinese Beer Garten. I would highly recommend this tour not just for the great information provided on the city by the tour guides but I thought it’s the best way to get the lay of the land.

We had an amazing time seeing the city in four hours on the Mike Bike Tour. Our guide Stephen from Ireland was a hoot!! Since we only had a day to see the city it was the best way to get an overview and cover a lot of territory. The bikes were well maintained and the day went smoothly. I highly recommend this tour!

A must do! The best way to see this city is by bike. This tour is informative, but most importantly it is entertaining! You ride and stop by some of the most important places in Munich while enjoying the smooth ride of a well tuned cruiser. One of the stops is in one of the beer gardens in the English Garden. Another plus is that the tour lets off at the back door of the Hofbrauhaus-how convienient!

I went on Mike's Bike Tour on Sat. March 19, 2005.
The tour was supposed to be 4 hours but mine was only 3 hours because it started to rain really hard and we buzzed through the last bit quickly (we still went to all the stops). I had trouble seeing where I was going due to the rain fogging up my glasses.
You go about 4 miles through Munich in about 4 hours on the normal days.

The bikes given are the typical tourister bike that is multi-speed and pretty comfortable to ride. You have a bell and play "spot the lion" by ringing your bell.
We stopped at the Hofbrauhaus, the Residence (we rode through the courtyards), the Opera House, the LudwigsPlatz, the school where the White Rose movement started and the Englisch Gartens where we stopped for a beer.
The tour is easy riding and fun. Munich is a flat city and easy to get around.

Mikes also offers day trips to Dachau Concentration Camp and a trip to Neuschwanstein Castle.

In the LudwigsPlatz picking up the bikes I've picked my bike on the Mike's Bike Tour bike l Rub the lucky lion at the LudwigsPlatz

    Best Tour in Town!

Mike's Bike Tours is the best way to see the city! At first, I was nervous about getting on a bike after several years, and riding through a busy city! Surprisingly, it wasn't difficult at all. The tour guides do a good job of keeping everyone together, and you stop fairly frequently.

The best part was our pit-stop at a beer garden in Englischer Gardens (city park). After passing the nude sunbathers, we parked our bikes, threw back a litre of beer and a sausage, and were on our way. Biking with a buzz through a major city...ahhh...feel the excitement! It was really great :)

Our guide was from New Zealand, and was very funny. I appreciated everything on this tour. It rocked!

This is an entertaining way to see Munich. It's an easy bike tour around the city. They stop often and point out various points of interest in the city as you ride from beer garden to beer garden. What a great way to meet people - riding, sightseeing and drinking beer. We had so much fun with our group that we ended up meeting later that evening at the Hofbräuhaus. One tip - when they ask for a volunteer at the beginning of the trip - stay quiet...

We just got back from a bike tour of Munich with Mike's Bikes. Our tour guide was Kyle. He has degrees in history and German, he is hilarious AND a native English speaker--from California. We did 3 tours of Munich and this was BY FAR the best. Rick Steves recommended Mike's Bikes--good call Rick. However, it was only $24 euros--cheaper than Rick said in his book. Five stars for sure!!

There is no way this would be legal in the states. It was a four hour drunken tour of Munich complete with sarcasm, Hofbrau Haus, and the Beer Garden. Achtung! Mein Liver!

Bikes and Beer...is there a better combo??

by cmarsek Written Nov 15, 2005

When in a new city a bike tour is THE WAY to go! You can see everything up close as if you were on foot...yet see nearly as much as you would be able to see in a car. Mike's Bike Tour was AWESOME! Unfortunately it rained during the entire 2 days I spent in Munich. That did not stop the fearless guide, Frankie, of Mike's Bike Tours from taking us out on a tour of history, culture, and beer gardens. At the end of the tour we finished very near to the famous Hofbrauhaus where we went to celebrate a wonderful ride! Tours last for nearly 4 hours and cost only 24 Euro. What a deal!! If you have Frankie as your guide tell him "Hi!"

    Awsome!!!

by Rustynails Written Aug 1, 2005

Amazing!!! I was a bit sceptical at first because being on a students budgets i thought it was expensive....But SOOOO worth it-the guys are so energetic and fun. None of this getting on a bike and wizzing around the city. The guys make it fun for you...for example our guide made us roar out aloud everytime we saw a statue of a lion - and there are a lot of lions in Munich!!So you can just picture 20 odd tourists on their bikes roaring their heads off. And before you go...it helps to lose the 'i dont want to stick out' tourist complex! The guys relish any opportunity to make you stick out! O and the lunch time stop in the Beer Garden - Again Awsome!!! And the beer really adds some excitement to the next leg of the journey!! And the bikes are really cool!!

Must Go on Mike's Bike Tours

by myrtle Updated Apr 11, 2004

We definitely wanted to take a tour in Munich to get to know more about the history. We had recently been in several cities that had Mike's Bike Tours & heard from many other travelers that it was one of their favorite memories of their trip, so I convinced some friends to go. We had the best time! The tour guides are all native English speakers & they make going on a tour fun, exciting, and very entertaining. They're very comical, so maybe some of the info they give is not necessarily true, but in the end you really just don't want this 4 hour bike tour to end. The majority of the people on the tour are young people ages 18-25, but other ages are very welcome to join. We met a lot of great people on this tour & would do it again in a heartbeat. I want to try their tours in another city.

The Mike's Bikes tours will introduce you to some nice tidbits of information about the city and take you off the beaten path. It is a nice leisurely ride with knowledgable guides that will keep you laughing. Halfway through the tour you get to take in a beer at one of munich's many beergardens. A wonderful experience!
