    Olympic Stadium Munich

by heitzenrater Updated Jan 15, 2005

    Olympic Stadium Munich
    Munich, Germany 1972 Olympics.

The design of the stadium at the time of its errection was considered revolutionary, large sweeping canopies of glass stabilised by metal ropes were a new concept. The stadium and its associated village are, however, always remembered for the tragic events of the 1972 Olympics, rather than the glories and chievments as such competitors as the swimmer Mark Spitz and sprinter Mary Peters who excelled themselves at the event.

The stadium is now also the setting for rock concert s of different bands, with the likes of hard rock act Guns n Roses, who filmed parts of there Estranged video there when they visited Munich in June 1993. The venue is situated in the heart of Olympic Park in Munich.

    My advice is.....

by BenFromBristol Written Jul 3, 2004

Go to the Olympic Park and stadium (pictured) and check out a Bayern Munich game while enjoying a giant pretzel and some hot wine - delicious!!! Also, in the evening go to Kuntzpark Oste which is like a fairground but with bars (you'll understand what i mean when u go there!). We had tickets to watch Oasis in concert here but they cancelled at the last minute - ah well!

In the Olympiapark you find this Tower. You have a wonderful view of Munich from its top (289.53 meters). Of course, you go up with a very fast elevator. From that place you can view the Olympic Stadium, the BMW Museum, the Alps and an overview of the city. Don't miss it!

    Admission prices:
    Adults: 3,00 €
    Young persons (under 16 years) 2,00 €
Groups of more than 20 persons 2,00 €
    Family Ticket:
(2 adults and up to 3 children under the age of 16) 8,00 €

The Olympic Park, built to house the 1972 Olympics in Munich, today continues to support sports and has many facilities. The park tower stands out over the city and you can go up to get a good look at the park and the city. The ride to the top costs 2 Euro for an adult.

The TV tower built in the typical German style is 290 metres high and not worth going up in the fog we had that day! :))) On a clear day, it must give great view of the Alps and I hope to try it.

Munich was the site of the 1972 Winter Olympics, and today you can still go to the rink for some ice skating.

Site of the 1972 Olympics, this landscaped park contains sport facilities, lakes, bicycle paths, concert venues, restaurants and a football stadium, as well as its landmark "tent-style" roofs.

At 4 euros it's good value for the ride to the top of the Olympiaturm. Great views over the city and on a clear day, down to the Alps. The stadium still looks very impressive from here too.

Olympic Tower Reaching a height of 289.53 metres, Munich's most prominent landmark. Take a lift to the observation platform, from where you have an incredible sight over Munich.

There's a nice park around the Olympic stadium, good for playing sports, skating, walking...
From the Olympiaturm you have nice view on the Olympic stadium.

The Olympic Fairgrounds, near the BMW Building. Now it's basically a big, sparsely frequented park with endearingly tacky '70s architecture.

Visit the unusual stadium and other buildings of the Olympic Park to the north of the city centre.
