Don't drink alcohol in the pedestrian zone !

I could not believe it myself, when I first heared about this special prohibition in Munich :

You are NOT allowed to drink alcohol in Marienplatz and the pedestrian zone of Munich !!

This law was mainly made in order to keep homeless people and drunkards out of the tourist-places in the centre.
But of course this law applies as well for tourists, buying a cheap beer in the supermarket and trying to drink it in the streets.

Mostly the police will first explain the law to you, and will fine you only in case they catch you again...

NO law without an excemption : Of course you may drink alcohol in a restaurant & beergarden there !!

Beer can make your tummy big!

    Excellent Beer!

Germany makes one of the best beer in the world. I don't really like to drink beer because of the bitter after-taste and the bad beer breath.

However, I really enjoyed drinking German beer because it tasted really good - so good that I ordered a second mug! That's why I believe that drinking German beer can seriously give someone one huge beer belly!

the beer at Starkbierzeit is dangerously drinkable

Elisabeth and Remo get a dose of Salvator

We had the pleasure of Elisabeth (rebibi) and her husband coming to visit us in Munich during the Starkbierzeit. We headed off to the Paulaner Wirtshaus on Am Nockerberg for the festivities. Though the beer clocks in at 7.5%, it is all too easy to quaff down. Even Elisabeth, who claims to not like beer, had no problem downing an entire liter mug. Remo, Doreen and I had much more, and paid for it the next day. The funniest part was they were pouring the beers a bit light, that is, not quite a full liter. We noticed it and after having a few gulps, Remo went up to the kegs and asked for a top off. They filled them right up, no questions asked. Thanks for coming Elisabeth, and thanks Remo, for the refill.

    Don't Drink and Drive !!

    Dont drink & Drive
This is even more important in Munich than in other places, maybe, as some sorts of beer will be much stronger, and in many cases you may get it just in a Masskrug , and that is a full litre of beer.

Especially during Oktoberfest, Starkbierzeit etc. controls by the police are made quite often and your driving licence might be lost quickly.

Public transportation is really perfect in Munich and takes you to almost every place in the city within a short time.

0,08% of alcohol in your blood and the drivers-licence is gone for a long time & high fines have to be payed as well !!

...and you might look like the person on the right of my pic ( another interesting sculpture of Asam-church in Sendlingerstrasse 62)

    Know before you Go

From a Bavarian point of view, beer is a tasty nutritional supplement. Dark beer was even recommended for pregnant women for health reasons.

When heading out for an afternoon or evening of 'taste testing' - especially if plans include a Beerhall crawl - there is one rule to keep in mind. In the words of local folk wisdom:
"Bier auf Wein, das lass' sein; Wein auf Bier, das rat' ich dir."

In other words, mind the alcohol quotient! Start with beer, and work your way up to wine or shots, if you must. If you inverse the order, plan for a day or two of downtime instead of sightseeing.

    Tapping your foot

Ompha music can be a danger as you will find yourself tapping your foot to it all day long. You will also find yourself drinking large amounts of beer and eating way to many sausages. But it is all in good fun.

Do not drink too much beer like I always do....
Then you will get very drunk, do a lot of stupid things and the day after will be terrible!
At this photo I have not followed my own rules... I am very drunk... and I look aweful!

What can I say, except that while German beer is very hard to leave alone, too much of a good thing could leave you with one slight problem. (see pic) Hehe
