The parish Church of Immaculate Conception is another gorgeous building in Neubeuern.
Located in the Historic town centre, it was painted a pretty yellow, and it too, had frescoes on the outside. It was begging me to come inside, and to see what more it had to offer! Well, there was more! It was beautiful inside too!
It was painted inside, lemon & white, with spatial pattern dating back to 1775/76. The Nave was built in 1636 and was arched for a second time in 1672. There is so much more, so I will leave you to read the website which has a lot more information in German, but it will translate to english.
The parish church is open throughout the day, so I was lucky and could go inside. .

As we were approaching Neubeuern, we could see a Schloss high up overlooking the Town. We drove around until we found the road heading up to the Schloss. It is not what I expected, but a boarding and day school. About 220 student's call this their home during the school terms.
After a look and a photo, we followed the road down the over side of the Mountain where we entered the old Historic town through one of its gates.

To visit the historic Town, the only way in, is through two, old city gates. One gives entry from the south/east, and the other from the north/west.
Once there, park the car and walk. After looking around the town square, then go for a walk around the small historic area, it is not very large, but is full of Lüftlmalerei [frescoes].
I love looking at these, I wish I knew the stories to them.
Also in the old town, is a lookout point over the pretty valley.

When I saw this beautiful square, I thought to myself, this is like fairyland. It would have to be one of the prettiest villages I have ever seen!
The market square is one of South Bavaria's most beautiful village squares.
The houses and shops were all painted with the world famous wall paintings, called Lüftlmalerei. They were kept tidy and had nice gardens, as did the Square itself.
The Tourist information centre is here, located in a beautiful Lüftlmalerei painting building.
Guided tours around the square are available in the summer months.

The tourist office is called Verkehrsverein. It is located in a beautiful building with a carved balcony and oriels and of course “Lueftlmalerei”. When we were there on 31st December the tourist office was closed but there were some leaflets in holders on the corridor wall. Outside there an information panel with accomodation information. And there is also a public toilet to the right of the building. You enter a little wooden gate. Since I didn’t try it I cannot tell you more about it.

There are two gates to enter the market square. The prettier in my view is the one leading towards the road to Austria. There is a separate gateway for the pedestrians and on the inside there is a board where the distances are actually measured in minutes rather than meters.

The high altar was made by Joseph Goetsch. The late Gothic miraculous is from around 1457 and has been thought to be effective for many centuries. In 1498 there occurred a bell wonder and in 1512 a light wonder.
The painting on the ceiling is about the shipping on the Inn river and was made in 1923/4 by the artist Anton Niedermaier. The baroque pulpit shows paintings of the four evangelists and was made by the local painter Thomas Urscher in 1724.

The bell tower dates back to the middle ages namely the 13th century. The upper bit of the tower is from the 15th century. The church itself was extended in 1630. In 1775/6 the choir was changed to Rokoko.

This is certainly the main attraction in Neubeuern. The square is a triangle. The houses on the square are not that old because a fire destroyed them at the end of the 19th century. But the reconstruction and decoration was made beautifully. In the old days the masters of the Inn ships and the innkeepers lived here.

The wolf gorge is actually the first local stone quarry. The fine quarzit was especially used for grind- and millstones. Over the time the gorge became about 300 meters long, 12 to 20 meters wide and around 30 meters deep. Later part of the south wall collapsed.
