I didn’t have time to do a tour of the building on my last visit to the town - too tired from cycling 24 km before lunch and getting ready for another 24km on the return trip.I did wander into the impressive courtyard and out onto the sunny terrace. It all looked great, and I’ve made a mental note (now down in writing) to check out the interior...more
This is the major former entry into the old town through the walls. Today it still is for that, but few vehicles are allowed inside. It was constructed in 14th century, but rebuilt in 1541 (still old). Tow towers flank the gate and they were watchtowers. The crest of Oberes Tor is seen in picturemore
This square appears small in some regards, but it is compact with a number of fine structures of BAroque style. Besides the CAtholic church, there is the town hall, Stadttheater, Hofapotheke, library of the ages factoids. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery and eat somewhere there.more
Because I cannot really give here my friends address I can only recommend on this small nice hotel...more

Crawled in here today after a 24km cycle from Gaimersheim. Food & drink urgently required. They supplied the goods, and quickly. A good pizza. A great beer. Friendly service (my German is very poor). It was my 2nd visit, so must have been good the 1st time too!€7 for the pizza (30cm, with black olives, Parma ham & artichoke hearts).€2.90 for the...more
Perhaps this ought to be filed under "off the beaten track". It is.It is also worth the effort to find. Set in the middle of a small village, next to the monastery. As an aside, you will very often find restaurants next to churches in Bavaria. This results from the local tradition of men going for a beer after church on Sunday. It is a traditional...more
This is a wonderful place for a quiet delicious dinner. It looks like a very traditional Gasthof from outside, but inside it is modern. However they have retained the warm. cosy atmosphere. When we were there it was mid-February and -12°c outside, so the warm ambiance was much appreciated.A great menu. For starter I had carpaccio of roast beetroot...more
This is the best and my favourite coffee house here. Visited this town already in the past, I always used to come here to the city centre to have a cup of coffee with a good cake from their own bakery. Always excellent, fresh and tasty. However, on a hot summer day, to get a bit cool I actually ordered cold Weizen beer which make this lovely city...more
As like almost any place in Germany you can get here by train. The main connections are to Ingostadt and Regensburg.
This is the shopping area at the outskirt of the city. This is of course for those who want to do shopping without paying for parking and with a good choice of many stores, among them Aldi and dm.
That's a Christmas market to you and me. It is held in the church square just above the Schloss. We were there on the first Saturday in December - best enquire locally about when it's on each year. It was delightful. The old town buildings surrounding us all illuminated. The lights of the market stalls. It is not a big market - but size is not...more
This is only danger if you are here during a big flood. Last one was just few years ago, the black line in the picture next to the small kids head is where the water level reached in the last big flood in 1999.

For my April 13 visit to the town, I cycled over from Ingolstadt. 24km each way. Took me 1.75 hrs, plus a couple of water breaks along the way. There’s an excellent cycle path all the way, following the Donau on the north bank. No traffic... I’m told it gets pretty busy “in season” but not a problem in April. It’s part of the Danube Bike Trail,...more
The local swimming pool complex. After we’d spent 30 minutes doing a few laps, we went into the outdoor pool. Warm water and air temperature of about -10°c. Wonderful! I recommend it. Friday afternoon about 4 it was busy, but not horrible. Swimming stuff, towel, shampoo, comb etc. The usual.more
Neuburg an der donau is a small and very nice city in Bavaria. The old city and the castle are the main attractions here and also the river Danube that runs in the middle of this city.
