Unschlittplatz

Favorite thing: ..... I used to have this view from my room. It was great living right in the old town which is part of the city. Pubs and restaurants abound, and (window) shopping was never a problem. The actual problem was to find some space to park my car. They have solved this problem now, there are multi-storey-car-parks galore.

Fondest memory: Finding a parking slot in front of the house I lived in on Unschlittplatz!

Rebuilding the Old Town

Favorite thing: Weißgerbergasse was the first lane to really be renovated old-style. A big thanks to the Friends of the Old Town of Nuremberg who initialized it. The houses have all been brushed up to look the way Old Nuremberg must have been like. Today, there are flats inside as well as pubs on the street level - again a great hang-out in summer.

Just below the Castle

Favorite thing: Here we are just below the castle in Dürer Square. Albrecht Dürer (ever heard of him? Hope you have!) was a famous painter 600 years ago, and his paintings can be found in museums all over the world.

Fondest memory: As teenagers, we used to hang out up here..... Great days or, better, nights in summer. It still is a meeting place for young people from all over the world!

Dürerhaus in Dürerplatz

Favorite thing: This is Dürerhaus, where Il Maestro lived and worked. It is a museum today, well reconstructed. Don´t miss visiting it: Inside, you´ll see a room that was considered an outrageous shame in those days (and might be considered such today): an indoor toilet. Right in the middle of the kitchen. :-) Albrecht Dürer was fined an immense sum of money for having built it, but he did not have to pay since he was such a renowned painter and acknowledged citizen of Nuremberg.

Favorite thing: Take in Nurnberg on a Saturday. This is when the Marktplatz (Market Square) is full of vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and veggies to carpet cleaner. This is also home of the world-famous Nurnberg Christkindlmarkt, or Christmas Market.

Fondest memory: We were walking around one Saturday and passed by the Frauenkirche, the big Catholic Church on the Square, when the doors opened and a wedding procession filed out. I think we ended up in some of their pictures!

Favorite thing: 1.) Visit Kaiserburg (sandstone-building, on a hill from sandstone)
2.) Look into 'deep well' and the Sinwell-Tower insider the castle-wall
3.) Look for Market Place (where the world best & most famous CHRISTKINDLESMARKT is every year) and eat
4.) NÜRNBERGER BRATWURST (3 / 6 / 12 pieces of very small and best spiced sausages!!!) => old spice-reciept from Nuremberg in the middle age!
5.) Eat after that 1 ELISEN-LEBKUCHEN => old spice-reciept from Nuremberg in the middle age!
6.) Go through the centre inside the large towers and the rests of wall!
7.) DON´T FORGET: Nuremberg has Europes most beautiful animal-park ZOO!!! Go there for 4-6 hrs.
8.) History: Adolf Hitler (sorry!) built at DUTZENDTEICH large temples from white stone for his military
9.) Relax in one of the good cafes....;-)

Favorite thing: Nuremburg is famous for being the site of war-crimes trials after World War II. It also has perhaps Germany's most famous Christmas market. During the weeks before Christmas, the streets are filled with merchants selling all kinds of Christmas items and great German food, including hot wine, a German specialty at Christmas time. You can't miss seeing the ancient walls surrounding the oldest part of the city.
