The building has probably been here since 1380....and the Hausbrauerei for quite a substantial length of time too.
The cellars under the buildings go back at least 600 years......you can take a tour round them (see other tip), and they are still in use for storing and maturing both beer and schnapps.
There'sa courtyard, and pleasant 'bierstube' (beer rooms) for a drink, a snack or a meal. Prices are reasonable, the menu full of local dishes.
I didn't eat here...I had no time...but I had a small Schwarzbier 'vom Fass' (draught, not bottled). It was one of the nicest beers I have ever drunk.
Definitely a place worth visiting if you are on a beer-tasting wander!

Well.
Not really what I expected to find in Germany!
The Australian is on the southern end of the Fleischbrucke, a prime position. It serves ice-cream (obviously), coffee etc, with tables outside.
I tried some of their ice-cream, because the novelty of home-made Australian ice-cream could not be missed. It was very pleasant.
Not a patch on Italian ice-cream, I'm afraid, but perfectly acceptable.
You may wish to try it out of sheer curiosity, like me. :-)

Yes, it's just off the Hauptmarkt in the most historic area of Nurnburg, on the way up to the Kaiserberg.
Yes, it's big and obviously aimed at tourists...menus are in French and English as well as German.
But it's also popular with locals as a reasonably-priced place to eat good, basic regional food with good beer.
So I ate there as well. I had rather lovely slcies of roast pork in an onion gravy, with a dumpling. I don't know exactly what I had.....I forgot to take a photo of the menu!
The pork was scrummy and so was the gravy, but the dumpling just did not appeal. There was some ingredient/taste which did not appeal to me, as simple as that: the dumpling itself was perfectly ok.
If you want somewhere to eat Bavarian food (they do chips and things as well), right in the centre of the city (in front of the Rathaus), at reasonable prices, then you could do worse than try Bratwurst Roslein. Menus are on their website.

A very old building this......seemingly undamaged in the air-raids of the war (or not much damaged anyway).
Lovely and wooden and gloomy (in the right way) inside, with just the right atmosphere for warming-up on a cold day .....but it was warm when I visited, so I sat outside.
The beer (I drink dark beer, of course....Schoppen Altfranken Dunkel) was very tasty and very welcome, my 'Stadtwurst' and kartoffelnsalat very enjoyable.
The building dates from 1419. Yes, the menu is rather limited (and why not..it's a bratwurstkuche!) but it's tasty and very reasonably-priced.
I'd recommend you have at least one meal here, if only for the history!

Very historic in feel and exceptionally good, local variation of bratwurst. A pleasure to watch the chef smoke and cook the final product in the interesting looking contraption in the front. Homemade sour kraut and fantastic potato sald, too.
Favorite Dish: Nurnberg bratwurst and potato sald.

A decent sized pub with a backroom that can scrunch in over 30 (tightly) that has affordable prices, good beer, good food, and decent service. Of course we were a larger group, so I'm sure the service was difficult and I think the waiter did a wonderful job attending to us. They are open late serving beer and snacks. They also have a beer garden. The pub is known for its showcase beer from the small breweries in Franconia, especially those around Nuremburg, Bamburg, and Bayreuth. They also have some souvenir krugs for sale of which my daughter purchased - quality made and a good gift. I can't comment on the beer as I don't drink beer, but I've heard good things from the friends in our company and they seem to have enjoyed it enough to drink up a storm. Some of the favorites mentioned were Schluekla (smoked beer from Brauerei Saurer in Gunzendorf), Dunkles Vollbier from Brauerei Drummer in Leutenbach, and the Dunkles Vollbier from Brauerei Penning in Hetzelsdorf. The food itself was very good ... I had a schnitzel, as my German is poor, and I couldn't figure what else familiar to order. :( Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.

This place is located in the main street, in the basement of another typical building, the Mauthalle.
This is again a huge place nicely furnished.
Favorite Dish: It was on a Sunday around 5pm, I was expecting just to have a beer but I saw so many people eating that I also ordered some food. To my defense, I had skipped lunch due to my flight and my willingness to quickly visit the city.
I've ordered 10 of those famous Nuernberger sausages (along with Sauerkraut). Indeed these were quite tasty but still, they're just plain sausages, nothing that exceptional...

This really look like a traditional (touristic?) German restaurant. Even the waitresses are dressed in traditional outfit.
Altough it looks small and cosy, I suspect the place is rather big as well. No reservation was required.
Favorite Dish: I have eaten here twice. Even if the specialty of the place is those famous Nuernberger sausages, the first time I had a delicious grilled pork scallop and the second time, several slices of tongue. Next time, I'll give it a try the heart dish.
As you can see, quite some interesting stuff on the menu. That was very nice, quite cheap and at least the portion were a bit more reasonable than in the two previous places!
As for the sausages, you could as well buy a can of their 'homemade' sausages' for later.

I was a bit hesitating. The hotel where this restaurant is located looked quite poch, maybe not the place where I could sit with a book.
At the end, there is a pretty large room where you pretty much seat where you want. It was rather full but no reservation was needed. Prices where quite affordable and it was not mannered at all.
Favorite Dish: Since my experience at the Heilig-Geist Spital, I was a bit more careful. I skipped the starter but ordered something that sounded similar to the main dish I had the day before.
What a surprise when they brought my 'plate'. It was literally a 'dish' that could have fed 2-3 persons and that was all for me...

This place is hosted inside one of the classical pictures you'd take from Nuremberg.
I was expecting a small cosy place where reservation would have been a must.
Instead of that, I have found a huge (nice) room half empty. That was during the week, in March. I suspect this is rather different during the touristic season!
Favorite Dish: I made the mistake to order as a starter a kind of 'fried camembert'. It was very nice but that could have already been a full meal by itself.
I remember the waitresses smiling at me when bringing the main dish, "Guten Appetite" she said...
And indeed I would need it! That was a pan full of potatoes, onion, sausages, pork, eggs,...
It was delicious and I managed to finish it ;-)
