A little bit away from the city centre is a small Greek restaurant in a cute modern style. Very small, and very good food. We had the Meze plate. Very tasty and a nice atmosphere. You should make a reservation because it is really small. In summer they have a beer garden. Not that pretty because of a big street, but OK.

The Heilig Geist Spital restaurant serves Frankonia cuisine. Very traditional German food. And an old restaurant. I loved meat with lebkuchen sauce. Little sweet, of course but very good! My friend he prefers "Schäuferle" with Knödel. Of course, with good beer... Directly in the city centre.

Zur Goldenes Posthorn was an absolute favorite of mine in the early 60's. The food was superb and expensive. It was known as one of Nürnberg's best restaurants. It was also the oldest weinstubbe in the city (not the oldest restaurant). The next time I was there was in 2003. It was still filled with wonderful German ambiance, but something had changed. The night that I was there, I had the worst meal I have ever had in Nürnberg. Ever!
In 2005 (might have been 2004) I took a friend to Nürnberg and was going to show him the restaurant. There was a sign that said, "Closed for remodeling." I told my friend that remodeling would not solve the problem.
In 2006 I found out what had happened. The restaurant was closed for remodeling because it had been sold to the owner of Bratwursthäusle. That suited me fine and we went there for dinner on my last day in Nürnberg. We could not get in the door, it was so crowded. The restaurant now specializes in basic Franken and Bavarian dishes along with Nürnberger bratwurst. I will add to this report in May/June 2007. I have heard it is wonderful and reasonable.
Favorite Dish: UPDATE: Because of the weakness of the dollar I have not traveled much this year. But, I am happy to report that Zür Goldenes Posthorn is back. Gone are the high prices, replaced with medium-priced excellent menu as-well-as the famed bratwurst. The former menu was filled with wild game selections. I don't miss them. This is once again a wonderful choice for old world dining and ambiance that is "gemütlich."
UPDATE DEC.2008: If anything, this restaurant is even better!

Chong's was recommended to me by a colleague who is from a town close to Nuernberg. I am not a big fan of meat, but my colleague insisted that I had to go there. So this was the last thing I did in Nuernberg before leaving. Finishing the day at Chong's. The place was not really full, but the mixture of the costumers showed me that it has to be a good place: Mid-aged women, a couple of kids and some motobikers - a quite heterogenic group. The interior of the restaurant was like you would expect a (stereo)typical 1950s US diner. Red artificial leather was the dominating material. But this does not mean that it is as filthy as you would expect the one or other diner to be. Chong's is a clean, nice place.
The burger was not the best I have eaten in my life. Somehow, a little taste was missing, but it was OK. What really impressioned me was the size of the burger as well as the huge amount of french fries and salad. I don't think I got that much for 8 EUR anywhere in Germany. All in all, a place I would really recommend.
Favorite Dish: I do not remember the exact name of the burger I had, but it was something like farmer's burger. The size of the dish exceeded by expectations by far.

This restaurants serves delicious regional and seasonal food of controlled biological cultivation wherever possible.
The restaurant itself is cosy with paint in light-warm green. The partitions give you some privatesphere, but you don't feel offside too much, though.
The restaurant hosts up to 70 people.
We'll be back!!
Favorite Dish: The menu is limited to three pages of food - including one page changing weekly - and few more pages for beverages - alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and wine included.
We had a salad with roasted chicken as starter, served with home-made bread, followed by ragout of lamb with tagliatelle and chicken in lemon sauce. As desserts we choosed a Panna Cotta made of coconut-milk and a delicicicicious slice of chocolate cake.
The menu also offers a lot of dishes which are free from lactose.
I just can recommend all the dishes we orderd!!
The prices are definitely fair: we paid average 10 € for a main-dish.

Just time for a quick lunch before heading for the airport, and a good choice.
Very tasty food, with an excellent aubergine schnitzel for Mrs Bonio and a friendly and comfortable atmosphere in this busy restaurant. Certainly visit again next time we're in town.

The family-owned Neef pastry shop is a local Nuremberg favorite. Karl Neef has trained in Switzerland and other countries and his experience shows. We were enticed by the window display as well as by full occupancy in the late afternnon and after waiting were seated at one of the small wooden tables with the blinding orange chairs. The interior, complete with glass display cases, could have been any coffee shop but the apple cake was absolutely superb - substantial yet light crust, lots of tart apples, just the right degree of sweetness - our best in Germany. Accompanied by excellent coffee, this was a perfect afternoon break.
The Neef family is quite well-known not only for their pastries but also for beautiful cakes for weddings and other events, Christmas pastries and cookies, and also a line of excellent and apparently costly chocolates. The glass display cases and window displays were very worthy of note.
Favorite Dish: Our best apple pastry in Germany.

After an exhausting day of sightseeing, we resolved to eat at the very first nice looking restaurant we found. The Royal Dragon is hidden by an overhanging second level but peering inside we saw extensive carved wood decor, the obligatory large fishbowl, and a surprising number of diners including some alone. The menu could have been lifted from any similar restaurant in the western world and the perfunctory service similarly. There was even a delivery bike parked in front.
Then the food came. We don't frequently eat Americanized Chinese food but made our selections from the extensive menu and were so pleased. Classic wonton soup had real flavor, but the winner was the hot and sour soup - stuffed with the usual goodies but in a spicy broth which appeared to be tomato-based - unique to us and delicious. An entree of chicken with garlic sauce was appropriately garlicked, not oversauced, but contained additional spices we could not identify - this was totally unexpected and excellent. The spare ribs were tasty meaty and again not over sauced. Everything we ate here seemed fresh. Even the tea was good. And very importantly there is a full bar service.
Favorite Dish: I sit here typing away 10 weeks later amazed that I went all the way to Bavaria to eat Chinese food and even more amazed at how good it was. An unexpected high recommendation.

For a touch of southern France in the heart of Nuremberg, try this little cafe for a limited menu of French food favoring salads and light entrees with a nice selection of pastries in the French manner including croissants and pastries filled with fruit or creme. The setting is delightful - all done in blue and yellow with shelves and tables filled with bottles of wine, spice, and whatnot. We enjoyed croissants and coffee here in a quiet setting reminiscent of any small village on the Cote d'Azur.
The location is terrific - halfway between St. Sebald's and the Castle District and right next to the Fembo House City Museum - about halfway up the hill.

Tapasitos is a delicious Spanish restaurant. The home speciality are tacos: you can choose between 40 differents kinds of tacos with meat, fish and vegetables. Fantastic is the Paella Valenciana (for 2 people). At the end of all you must try the sweet tacos like Catalana Cream. The staff is very friendly and very nice!!! They add the 10% of your bill as tip.
