What to buy: Lebkuchen is some kind of gingerbread and it is THE thing to buy in Nuremberg!! For more than six hundred years Nuremberg has been famous as the center of German production.
Formerly situated on a major trade route from the Orient to northern Europe, it was surrounded by forests buzzing with beehives. Nuremberg's bakers took advantage of these ingredients to make the cakes that became known as Lebkuchen.
Their enterprise was so successful that in 1643 these special bakers (known as Lebküchner) formed a guild to limit competition and control the quantity and quality of their wares. Nuremberg Lebkuchen were of such high quality (and based on such costly ingredients) that they were accepted as a payment for city taxes and sent as gifts to nobles, princes, and heads of state.

When you walk around in the Old Town of Nuremberg, you will come across many small stores everywhere. However, the biggest department stores and shops are on the few pedestrian street (Karolinenstr, for example). You can find stores like Zara, H&M, Karstadt, C&A, and many many more.
What to buy: You can find all kinds of stores in Nuremberg, so you can probably find whatever you are looking for. Just keep in mind that the stores get very full on Saturdays and most of the stores are closed on Sunday.
What to pay: There are some cheap stores, but also some expensive ones - something for everyone!

C & A isn't special to Nürnberg, I found them all over Germany - even in Ansbach! Somehow, though, when my sister Beth and I made a stop in C & A to find "split pants" we ended up staying there for four hours! The time just flew by, it was amazing.
What to buy: At C & A, my sister and I went through all the floors (four or five) and our favourite was the one with the clothes from Clockhouse. Ahh, slit pants! We also checked out the top floor, and Beth bought a traditional Bavarian blouse that she has since incorporated into an outfit for the Texas Renaissance Festival. I bought a traditional pair of shoes, that I love (but not as much as the pants!)
What to pay: I got some serious deals at C & A. Buying last season's clothes saved me about 50%; a 35 euro pair of pants cost 19 euro! Why didn't I buy more slit pants? *sigh* I guess I'll have to go back and buy some more.

One of the most beautiful towns in Germany

I had been several times in Nürnberg and I think that it is still one of the most beautiful towns in Germany: you will see a castle, a large part of the medieval townwalls, great museums and a lot...
