Franken-Stadion - World Cup 2006 Venue
In 2006 Germany will host World Cup 2006, the biggest sporting event in the world. Nuremberg has been chosen to host five of the matches, four group stage games and one from the second round. It has a capacity of 45,500 and is home to one of Germany's most famous teams: FC Nürnberg.
I came here to see a game from what is considered to be the warm up tournament for the World Cup: the Confederations Cup 2005. Although it is mostly a friendly tournament, it consisted of the winners of every continental championship, as well as World Cup winners Brazil and hosts Germany. The game I went to see was a storming game between Australia and Argentina, which attracted a noisy crowd of nearly 30,000 people.
I was stuck behind a group of Brazilians who booed every Argentinian player, gesticulated angrily at the Argentinian fans every time they started chanting their country's name (giving the finger from both hands, not just one). They also cheered everything the Australians did, and sharing the same colours helped a lot. Argentina went 3-0, and so the Brazilians left and missed Australia's valiant come-back, bringing the game to 3-2 before conceding a final, devastating, goal in the final minutes.
The ground is easy to get to, but the viewing area isn't so great. The stadium has that annoying Olympic running track around the outside, meaning the fans are a lot further back from the action. The seats around the side are the best, but obviously they are also the most expensive. Still, it was a very enjoyable experience, and the local fans were gracious to the foreign teams happily picking up the banners of both nations.
FC Nürnberg - FCN
FC Nürnberg (Fußball-Club Nürnberg Verein für Leibesübungen e. V.) was founded in 1900, when a group of eighteen young men gathered at the local pub called the "Burenhütte" to assemble a side committed to playing football rather than rugby, one of the other new "English" games that was becoming popular at the time.
FC Nürnberg currently play their home games at Nürnberg-Frankenstadion which was built in 1928, renovated between 1987 and 1991, modernised 2004/5 and it’s last renovation 2009/10.
From 1933 the stadium and surroundings served as a rally ground for the Nazi Party, and in particular the Hitler-Jugend. Directly after the war the stadium was used as a sports field by the US Army
German Shepherd World Championship SV BSZS (Shaeferhund Verein Bundessiegerzuchtschau) was held in 2010 on Nuremberg “e-credit Stadium”. It was our 10th BSZS (first time in Nuremberg). We spent there three wonderful days and enjoyed the competition very much.
I was taking videos and put 42 of them on Youtube. I’m proud that they have tens of thousand hits since then…
For example you can see my 9 min 14 sec Video 2010 SV BSZS TSB part 1 Ruden VA1-VA13 HD out of my Youtube channel which has already more than 22 000 hits. This video is about tests of behaviour of the best German shepherds.

The name of the game: football
Nürnberg FC is one of the Bundesliga football (soccer) clubs, and why not go and see them. They play in the Luitpoldhain area, and as you can see in this photo, the old Zeppelin Field is just outside their stadium.

Home of FC Nuremberg and will also be used in the 2006 World Cup. Very smart place to watch if you are lucky enough to have tickets.
1 FC Nürnberg
1 FCN play in the 1 Bundesliga (2005-6), on my visit they were about to be promoted and defeated MSV Duisburg 2-0 in front of a small but noisy crowd.
