An almost car-free town
The centre of Oberstdorf is pretty much car-free which is really agreeable. There are several car parks in the outskirts, the bus trip is included in the parking fee. We did take the one directly at the train station and from there it was just a few minutes walk to the centre. Within Oberstdorf, everything can be easily reached by foot, and although you are in the Alps the town is flat and not hilly!
How to get to Oberstdorf
We came by car. As parts of the centre of town are pedestrianised and there are always rumours that you can't park anywhere there are a lot of park & ride car parks as soon as you enter town.
However, there is parking available very near the town centre so just ignore them :-). We parked just 2 minutes walk away from the cute railway station.
Talking of which: You can get to Oberstdorf by train from several cities in South Germany.
