Kleinhesseloer See in Englischer garten/Munich by globetrott Kleinhesseloer See is a lake in the north of the "Englischer Garten" in Munich and a great place to feed the birds or rent a boat. There is also a great restaurant and beergarden with a few tables directely at the lake ( in the back of my picture!) You may easily combine this lake with a visit at the Monopteros and the Chinesischer Turm. Leave a Comment

Atadtapotheke in Füssen by globetrott This is maybe the most beautiful fassade of Füssen. You will find it in the pedestrian area. The design of the 17th century follows similar fassades in Italy and gives you the feeling to see real stones and structures - but in fact the walls are completely flat. The building was always used as a pharmacy and has also a great wooden furniture inside ! Leave a Comment

purty as a pixture from D by richiecdisc Though the main reason to go to Freising is to visit the world's oldest brewery, Weihenstephan, we were happy to find the city itself full of its own charms. It was full of winding streets, fine churches and weeping willows. And wouldn't you know it, there was a beer festival going on the day we arrived. No, I did not plan it, D. Really..... ;> Take the S-1 from Munich towards the airport. Leave a Comment

Alatsee close to Füssen by globetrott Alatsee is a rather small alpine lake, about 7 Km west of Füssen - my picture shows almost half of it. The water on the top is crystall clear and a tiny river is flowing through it . In a depth of about 10 meters the water gets a different density and you will find plenty of old trunks of trees and leaves there. Below these trees you cannot see anything in the water, but the lake has a depth of several hundred meter at certain places. I was working in the hotel there in 1990, and at that time Prof. Fricke came with his submarine to search for relicts of WW II and Nazi-treasures. All he found was lots of fake British Pounds, printed by the Nazis and finally thrown into the lake at the end of the war. There are some more infos about that lake and its history on the web-page below. Leave a Comment

Hundinghütte in Linderhof castle by globetrott Hundinghütte is one of the many places inside the big castle park of Linderhof, that King Ludwig II had built simply in order to be able to have the perfect surrounding for performances of Parsifal or other works by Richard Wagner. Whenever the king had the idea, he wanted to see such a performance, the servants had to get there, make sure, all the snow was taken away before the king arrived, flowers were planted into the frozen soil in march for just a few hours, the orchestra would go there and everything was ready, when the king came... Well maybe you understand a bit , why he is called " mad " king Ludwig... For tourists it certainly makes sense to walk these 30 minutes to the very back of the park, even if nobody had planted fresh flowers for you... Leave a Comment

St.Koloman by globetrott St.Koloman is a famous pilgrim-church , close to Schloss Neuschwanstein. You will pass by it, when coming from Munich, and the church will be at the crossing, where you leave the main road for Schwangau. Thre church is open for the public only in the afternoon, this is why I have not seen it from inside, unfortunately. Leave a Comment

Maurischer Paviliion in Linderhof castle by globetrott The Maurish Pavillion is another lovely sight in the back of the park of Linderhof castle. It looks quite unusual between the high mountains of Bavaria. You may not walk inside, but have a look through the glass-door and see the great interior with a beautiful throne. The building was made for a world-exhibition, sold to another millionaire first, and finally rebuilt for the king. Leave a Comment

Linderhof Castle by Kuznetsov_Sergey Lindehof is one among the four most interesting Ludwig's Castles. In the middle of a severe mountain landscape, in loneliness of valley Grassvangthal, Linderhof Palace was constructed under the instruction of king Ludwig II. Galleries with the lime arches directly behind the Palace withdraw upwards on abrupt northern slope from strictly ornamental garden-carpet in the form of Burbon lines. Water flows down here downwards cascades, on thirty marble steps, in pool with a fountain decorated by sculptural group of the Neptune. More information you can get at my Linderhof VT Travel Page

Harburg Castle by Kuznetsov_Sergey Today Harburg Castle is one of the most kept ensembles of such type in the south of Germany. It represents mixture of various architectural styles of seven centuries. It is possible to reach the basic court yard if to cross a number of protective medieval constructions. The halls of the Castle arranged in strict style, they are decorated by kesson ceilings. More information you will find at my Harburg VT Travel Page.
