Garmisch-Partenkirchen

It is necessary to visit the top of the highest mountain of Germany - Zugschpitze. There will be magnificent views to the Bavarian and the Austrian Alpes as the award!More information you will find at my Garmisch-Partenkirchen VT-Travel Page.

Burgthann

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

The first mention was in 1141. In 1288 it was passed to the Nurnberg county. It was handed to Herzog Thann and his dynasty. A part of a masonry of a tower and a wall of the burg were kept from the original castle and the serf strengthenings.More information is at my Burgthann VT-Travel Page.

Berg am Starnberger See

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

In 1886 Ludwig's scheming political rivals succeeded in taking over his power; they arrested Ludwig II and put him in the Berg castle on the bank of Lake Starnberg. On the very next day after the arrest, May 13, 1886, the King's body was found in the lake. The body of this mysterious political assassination's sole witness, Professor Gudden, was discovered near by.For more information look at my Berg am Starnberger See VT-Travel Page.

The Bavarian Navy

by aaaarrgh

Being entirely land-locked, Bavaria does not have much call for a navy. Other than this small gunboat which is waiting patiently for the next tide.OK, hands up, I am telling lies!! This is actually part of a childrens play-area at a sanctuary for farm animals, near Gaukonigshofen. Because it is on top of a hill in the middle of a continent, the sanctuary is imaginatively called "Arche Noah" :-)

Chiemsee

by tessy

Chiemsee is the biggest of the bavarian lakes. We saw it often when driving on the motorway, but never stopped there. But this time, we decided to go there on our way to Inzell. So we visited Chiemsee and Herrenchiemsee on a sunday afternoon in november. There were lots of people. I can imagine that it is crowded there in summer. Most boats leave in Prien. You can book Herrenchiemsee or a cruise with more islands. I would have liked the cruise, but we were too late and in november it gets dark early.

MUNICH > Kleinhesseloer See

by globetrott

Kleinhesseloer See is a lake in the north of the "Englischer Garten" in Munich and a great place to feed the birds or rent a boat. There is also a great restaurant and beergarden with a few tables directely at the lake ( in the back of my picture!)You may easily combine this lake with a visit at the Monopteros and the Chinesischer Turm.

Kaltenberger Ritterturnier

by richiecdisc

This is another example of beer leading me to greater things. I love Kaltenberg's dunkles beer but had read about a Ritterbock, only served at this medieval festival. I checked up on it and it was a bit expensive to go but we figured it was maybe the only chance we would ever get. Well, it turns out, the beer is no longer brewed but the event itself was just great. It takes place at an actual castle and everyone is dressed in costume. The jousting is quite entertaining. Oh, and they did have the dunkles, and that was just fine too. Cheapest ticket is 16 Euros. Check out the website for more details.

Kloster Reutberg

by richiecdisc

This is far off the beaten path unless you are a real beer aficionado. That said, Kloster Reutberg is worth a visit either way. It is a lovely setting, in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. You can hear cowbells jangling as you walk around the unspoiled hills. Besides the scenery, there is a great beer garden where you can eat a great meal and sample some fine beers. S-2 to Holzkirchen and a bus from there goes twice a day on weekdays. You can bike or walk on a 13-km path too.

Freising

by richiecdisc

Though the main reason to go to Freising is to visit the world's oldest brewery, Weihenstephan, we were happy to find the city itself full of its own charms. It was full of winding streets, fine churches and weeping willows. And wouldn't you know it, there was a beer festival going on the day we arrived. No, I did not plan it, D. Really..... ;> Take the S-1 from Munich towards the airport.

Wieskirche

by tini58de

With his Wies church ( built between 1746 and 1757) Dominikus Zimmermann and other excellent artistst of the time undoubtedly created the zenith of a specific Bavarian Rococo architecture. The church is located on a small elevation in the middle of a meadow and can be seen from great distance. The Wies Church has been awarded UNESCO World heritage status and really is worth visiting, although a little off the beaten path!.
