Next to the castle Veste Oberhaus you will see a rather modern restaurant, built in the 1950s of red bricks. In my opinion it looks terrible against the castle, BUT it is certainly a great place with a perfect panorama-view.
Bring a lot of time, as the service is really a bit slow and the choice of food and drinks is also not special, BUT who cares about that, when you may have such a great view.
Favorite Dish: I was there on a sunny afternoon and wanted to have coffe and some cake. I even got a great table directely at the fence, but after having to wait for more than 10 minutes, I gave up waiting and went to the other cafe in the INNERcourt of the castle - see my next restaurant-tip !!

Restaurant Piräus is a nice greek restaurant, next to the old townhall and I had a great dinner there some time ago.
When searching for a restaurant serving food late at night, after 10.00 p.m. the choice of restaurants is really limited and in restaurant Piräus you may order food still untill shortly before 11.00p.m.
The restaurant is open daily : 11.00a.m. - 11.00p.m.
Favorite Dish: I had Tsaziki, a greek farmer' salad and a spinach-stroodle. And I had first a light white wine with the food and a glass of Samos for desert. Samos is a really sweet and also very strong wine with about 16% of alcohol. 1/8 of a litre of that wine will make sure, you are not allowed to drive any more.
NO problem for me, as i had my motorhome just around the corner...

Inside the old townhall of Passau you may dine in the historic building and outside in the garden-restaurant just below the beautiful, giant frescos on Rathausplatz, that you may see on my picture.
Favorite Dish: I had breast of turkey with Gorgonzola-sauce, noodles, salad and a local beer and it was simply delicious.
From the terrace you also have a great view on the Danube and the ships passing by !

The Gourmet-restaurant "Kaiserin Sissi" is umong the 400 best restaurants of Germany, and while other places simply carry the names of celebrities in order to attract new customers, This restaurant once had the empress of Austria - Sissi - dining there and staying in the Hotel "Wilder Mann" for 8 days .
This restaurant is certainly the best place for a romantic lunch or dinner in Passau.
The restaurant is open daily after 06.00p.m.
Sundays and holidays also 11.00a.m.-02.00p.m.
The restaurant is always closed on Tuesday !
Favorite Dish: Try the game specialities, they were my favorite !

This lovely and romantic cafe is in the innercourt of Veste Oberhaus, close to the entrance of the museum.
The cafe is less crowded, but it has also a few great tables directely facing the city of Passau - like shown on my picture.
Favorite Dish: I had a coffee and a tasty apple-cake and I was lucky to get one of the 3 tables inside the niches facing the city of Passau.
All the other tables in the cafe will have no view of the town , but there are also a few tables in the innercourt of the castle.
The cafe is run by a young couple still working with great enthousiasm and they have a nice menu as well.

The Hacklberg Brewery produces some fine beer - notably the Hefeweizen. There is a traditional beer hall for drinking inside and also a large beer garden that is open in the summer. The food is excellent as well as being very traditional.
Favorite Dish: I am rather partial to the Schweinshaxn which is a roasted knuckle of pork. Some dumplings and kraut on the side and a couple of Weiss beers to wash it down.
