Rathaus complex. by dabidc The prime activity is the pleasure associated with walking around the old city centre looking for interesting buildings to photograph or to amble along the waterside enjoying the views, stopping off at sidewalk cafes and watching the world go by. The dock side is busy as the river cruise boats stop and unload the passengers who then go visiting the places of interest, using up some calories prior to adding more gastronomical delights later in the evening. Rising above the opposite bank of the Danube, that is the north side of the river is Veste Oberhaus, a former episcopal stron hold. Just east of this comples another river flows into the Danube form the North, this river is the Ilz. Leave a Comment Directions: The Cruise boats use the docks on the Danube or the south side of the Danube to dock.

Altar in the Dom. by dabidc I travelled to Passau from Wels in Austria by train, which arrives at the station located between Bahnhof Srasse and Grunau Strasse. It was an easy 700 m walk to the east to reach the Cathedral at Dom Plaza. The interior of the Cathedral is outstanding in the colour of the paintings and other murals. Leave a Comment Directions: The Cathedral is about mid way between the Bahnhof and the Park at the junction of the Inn and the Danube.

Cathedral Organ. by dabidc I was pleasantly surprised to find an Organ recital about to start, so I sat in an upper gallery and enjoyed a concert around the noon hour. The information I recall is that the Organ is one of the largest, if not the the largest in the world. I cannot quote the number of pipes, I can say that the pieces played resounded through the church and could literally be felt as well as heard. Leave a Comment Directions: If you visit the Cathedral try to go at noon on the chance that there is a regular recital. It is possibly not to everyone's pleasure but for once try something OTBP.

Danube cruise boat. by dabidc The cruise ships are generally headed for Linz, Vienna, Budapest and points east towards the Black Sea. The photo shows a ship heading further west, maybe to turn around, as well as the tall cliff on the north of the Danube showing the commanding position that the heights allow. Leave a Comment Address: Near the junction of the Inn amd the Danube.Directions: You can sit and enjoy a refreshing drink or dessert in the RathausPlaza as you watch the ships ply along the Danube.

by globetrott I was lucky when I was inside St.Stephen's ,the cathedral of Passau, as the German Television had a rehearsal for an organ-concert and all of the church was professionally lighted. The organ has 17388 pipes and 231 registers. In summer you may attend a daily organ-concert at lunchtime ! For the concerts you have to pay a small entrance-fee, but all the other time, the church is open for visitors without restrictions during the day. Leave a Comment Address: DomplatzDirections: You may see the cathedral of St.Stephen from almost any place in Passau.

Dom St. Stephan by Roeffie Dom St. Stephan This is the most known and most beautiful church of Passau, with it's beautiful wall paintings and all the religious art. But the biggest event is the world's biggest pipe organ with 17774 Pipes and 233 Registers. On several occasions the organ is played normally every working day at 12.00- 12.30 hrs. The entrance fee is then € 3,00 for Adults. On other hours you can enter the cathedral for free. MS Regina Danubia by Roeffie Staying in Obernzell you got various options to take a boattour on the Danube. First possibility is boating to Linz in Austria or one of the stops along the way to Linz. Even all the way to Vienna is possible, but be aware of the costs and the distance. We took the local bus to Passau, visited Passau for more than half a day and then went back to Obernzell by Boat, which is about one hour and being with small kids that is enough. This part of the river is very beautiful to boat on. Some specs. of the ship: MS "Regina Danubia" Built 1992 Bauwerft Lux, Mondorf Length 70,00 m Width 11,24 m Depth max. 1,38 m Persons max. 400 persons Leave a Comment

St.Stephen - The Dom of Passau by globetrott St.Stephen - The Dom of Passau is one of the highlights you should not miss ! The old cathedral was destroyed in the year 977 and in 1407 it was rebuilt in gothic style, it burned down in 1662 and was rebuilt again in Baroque style. St.Stephen cathedral is the church with the biggest interior north of the alps.Inside it is beautifully decorated with stucco-works, frescoes and paintings. The cathedral also has the biggest organ in the world. On the right of my picture you see the cathedral , on the left is a seperate court that you may enter from outside - it shows some great tombs and old inscriptions. Leave a Comment Address: DomplatzDirections: The Dom of Passau is on Domplatz - you may see it's high spires from almost any place in town.
