 | Passau Transportation | Tips 1 - 8 of 8 | | In summer a small bus is leaving daily from the old townhall taking you up to the castle Oberhaus. The ride is 2 or 3 Euros one way and saves you of a lot of sweat in summer. The bus will drive you up on the backside of the castle-hill and will take you directely to the ticket-box of the castle, close to the Youthhostel Veste Oberhaus. For your way back to the city again, I may highly recommend to walk the interesting path leading down the hill between the different walls and towers of the different castles. When you inted to take a cruise down the Danube or want to go cycling along the Danube, you may park your car at seperate parking-lots in Passau. H.Eckert is one of these companies, offering a parking for your car and a taxi-service to the city for a minimum-fee of 32,- Euros per week, depending on the size of your car. On my picture : The Danube at Passau seen from a lower part of the castle Oberhaus. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor HomePhone: 0851 - 34262Other Contact: FAX: 0851 - 34292

Take a small rivercruise to all of the 3 rivers that join in Passau: The ILZ is the smallest river, and also much to small for ships sailing on it, so you simply are taken the mouth of the river, next to Veste Niederhaus. The river Inn is a lot bigger and smaller ships could enter it as well, but they will turn around soon again and most of the so-called 3-river-cruise will be done only on the Danube. Such tours will start several times each day with ships of all sizes. Leave a Comment

Parking your car in Passau is rather easy, as long as your car is not extra-high, as my motorhome. Plenty of shady parkings may be found under the street that was built on a higher level because of the frequent floods in passau. Parking-fees are 1 Euro per hour and may be payed in a machine. The maximum-fee between 08.00a.m. and 06.00p.m. is 10 Euros ! Free parking besides Mon-Fri.08.00a.m.-06.00p.m. and except saturday 08.00a.m. - 01.00p.m. ! Throw in the right amount of coins, the machine will NOT give back any change !! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Getting to Passau is easy by train. From Munich it takes two hours as the train makes the detour over the Landshut area, but there are also frequent trains from Regensburg and Linz, and some from Vienna. The train station is just a few minutes walk from the Old Town, as trains stop on the peninsula leading to it. Leave a Comment

In the city of Passau plenty of people have specialized their business on the special needs of travellers coming to Passau by car or train, cycling down the Danube to Vienna or Budapest. You may book there for a transportation of your big luggage from one hotel to the other, while you are cycling with just a daypack and at the end of the tour the bike is taken back to Passau by bike-taxi. On my picture : Festung Oberhaus , the beautiful castle of Passau ! Please click on my link below in order to get informations about organized bike-tours along the Danube ! Leave a Comment

Our connection to Passau was by train from Zurich to Munich and then by coach to our ship waiting in Passau. The Swiss Crystal a 101.5 meter long ship was to be our home for the next 7 days. Once on board we were greeted by music and as it was tea time with coffee and and choice of cakes and a chance to meet our fellow passengers. Our boat's capacity was for 120 passengers and as we were only 60 we did not get in each others way. Of course, at this time of the year I must warn you the majority including myself were over 60 going up to past 80's. As such some were handicapped and some needed chair lifts for getting up and down but this was no problem for the crew. It might be boring for younger people but then if you wanted to just chill out it is really ideal. Then it was time to inspect our cabins and explore the boat and enjoy the evening sun setting over the city of Passau. Soon it was dinner time and we were ushered to our tables by the very friendly and efficient staff. At 8:00pm it was time untie the ropes and enjoy the evening cruise to Regensburg our next stop Leave a Comment
