10 km long emerald-green mountain lake, considered the pearl of the Berchtesgadener Land. Some of the most magnificent panorama views across all of Bavaria can be found here. To preserve the purity and tranquillity of the water only electrically-powered boats have been allowed on the lake since 1909.
This green tram is a beauty. It is the original steam tram the town of Priem used to have. Now it's a single line from town center to the pier. Taking a journey with this steam little engine is great, especially for those who did not experienced steam trains before.
WE did not go into the town, but did see the hospital along the way. The dock is where 95% of the people want to go, I imagine.
Located within the Lake of Chiemsee is an excellent but unfinished castle by the famous Ludwig II. Take a ferry to the island and see the palace grounds and the guided tour as well.
After seeing the huge boilers on the monster locomotives in Speyer Tehnik Museum, this looks almost like a toy locomotive, but its steamer boiler is very nice and hidden inside the first cart.
There is a very nice walking path around the town. Here you will find many people walking and skating along the lakes edge. The path is well lit at night and make for a romantic walk at night.
Don't miss to take the Ferry boat to the "Herreninsel" - the huge island with the beautiful palace built by Ludwig II. to copy Versailles in France! It is incredible, even if it was unfinished.
