sorry for the webshot, my camera was broken by richiecdisc Beyond circumstances of any normal person’s control, I arrived in Landshut well after the sun had set. I wasted a good portion of the day hunting beers in Altotting and Neutotting and came away with very little to show for it. So, I was starving and thirsty and had less time than I might have. But I found this great little place by merely looking for someone that served the local Wittman beers on tap. I walked into a smoky room full of locals having their evening beers. I wondered if I had made the right move but all concerns vanished when the friendly waitress plopped down a cheap tasty Helles beer in front of me.
I had the daily special for 5.90, which was a big plate of schweinebraten (roast pork) with dumplings that was tasty and well up to the task of pairing with the excellent local brews. Not only did they have a nice Helles beer but their Dunkles was a roasty dry treat as well. Another surprise was their having a bittersweet Marzen. The beer hunting took a while to get going on this particular trip but I hit gold in Landshut. olympiaturm by globetrott Between 11.00a.m. and midnight you may have lunch , afternoon-tea or dinner in a revolving restaurant on top of the Olympiaturm. Just be aware of the fact that the tables at the windows are quite large ( maybe 6 or 8 seats on each table, when I remember correctely) and the good seats at the windows are hard to get. Make reservations as soon as possible !!
The menu was quite big and prices were a bit more expensive that in the rest of Munich... ... and it will also be hard to keep a place directely at the windows, when you just order a cheap drink... BUT where else will you be able to see the alps, while dining in a great restaurant ?? Leave a Comment Theme: LocalComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Get out at U-bahn-station "Olympiapark" look up to see the tower and follow the crowds through the park...

Chinesischer Turm by globetrott The restaurant am Chinesischen Turm is first of all a giant beergarden around a relict of the good old days of the Bavarian kings. Between 1789-1791 it was made of wood and became soon a major tourist-attraction . today there will be a small orchestra sitting on the 1st floor of the tower (at least on a sunday and during summer) , performing oompta music for all the people sitting in the beergarden around the tower.
Like in most of the beergardens, you may buy beer and food in seperate stands and carry it to your table. You may even bring your own food... Leave a Comment

Hofbrauhaus, Munich by Jehcekah Fun. Fun. Fun. I am not a beer drinker, nor am I am big partier. However, I had a blast at the Hofbrauhaus. It is filled to the brim with tourists from all kinds of places (expect to see a lot of drunk Aussies). You can order a mass beer and a Bavarian pretzel and sit back and watch the roudiness. The band plays mostly English songs and there is plenty of opportunities for you to get up and do the chicken dance! Don't expect to get the best German food here or even the best service, but it shouldn't be missed.
BEER! I especially liked the 1/2 lemonade, 1/2 beer...DELISH! Leave a Comment Theme: German/AustrianPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Platz 9Directions: In walking distance from Marienplatz

Zum Mohren by tessy Zum Mohren is a typical bavarian restaurant. On the menu, you get lots of the typical bavarian dishes. We have been there at about 3p.m. Usually, restaurants are closed at that time. But in bavaria, lots of the restaurants give you a warm meal even at that time. Hertie - Schmankerlgasse by globetrott Hertie Schmankerlgasse is in Schützengasse, just a few meters from Karlsplatz / Stachus with its own entrance through the underground-arcades.
These shops and restaurants are built in the basement of Hertie-Departmentstore and offer a great variety of fresh food and great drinks. It is ment for shoppers and business-people with a short lunchbreak, as you are served quickly, pay right away, eat it there or take it away. Normally it is pretty full, but when I took the pic, it was closing and cleaningtime ( they are just open as long as the shop is !) Kaufhof - a great self-service-restaurant by globetrott In Kaufhof on Karlsplatz / Stachus you may go by lift or escalators to the 6th floor, where you ahve a great self-service-restaurant with a great view on Karlsplatz,Frauenkirche and a lot more. What makes me angry every time I am there is the fact, they charge quite a lot, when you want to powder your nose...
The food there is really great, and what is the best for the tourists - most dishes are shown with photos, so you see in advance, what to expect, even if your German is not so very good. Potatoes, rice etc will be ready, but mostly the meat will be prepared freshly in front of your eyes. They also have a great variety of cakes and icecreams in the afternoon and every day they have a cheap meal and a cheap "cake&coffe-offer" Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: KarlsplatzDirections: Directely on Karlsplatz, opposite of the famous fountain : take the escalator down the street, get up at the other side and you are there.

Kreutzkamm - my favorite bakery in Munich by globetrott This is one of the very best (and unfortunately also most expensive ) places I remember for delicate cakes, pastries and sweets.
"Baumkuchen" is their most favorite cake : It is hard to explain, as the cake is somehow backed around a stick, and thin layers of cake follow thin layers of chocolate, and finally, when you take out the middle-stick and cut the cake it looks like a trunk of a tree with plenty of year-rings. "Hefezopf" , "Dredner Stollen" "Mohnstrudel" were my other favorits - much more expensive than anywhere else, and also much better. Augustiner beergarden in Munich by globetrott Augustiner is one of the most beautiful traditional inns in Munich. It is situated in the pedestrian area and has this wonderful " beergarden " in the back of the building. I was there in october, and it was a bit too cold to sit outside, but in summer it will be hard to get any of these tables.

Hofbräuhaus by globetrott Hofbräuhaus might even be the most famous restaurant / inn in the world. "Hof" is the german word for the Royal court, and "Hof-Bräu" was the beer drunk at the court by the king and his guests, so it certainly was the very best beer in the country.
There is a great restaurant on the 2nd floor , (in Europe we would call it 1st floor ;-) with great cuisine and of course the famous beer. Simply take these few steps upstairs for a great dining experience. If you just want to drink some beer, have a look for my next tip : Hofbräu - Schwemme Leave a Comment Theme: LocalComparison: about averageAddress: Am PlatztlDirections: Just about 500 meters from Marienplatz
