Andechser Braust?berl: beer, beer, beer

by tessy

We went to Andechs on our way back home to have lunch there. Even though we visited in november it was a wonderful day, so we didn't take a seat inside, but on the terrasse! You have to take the drinks and the hot and cold meals on different places. I wanted to try an original Obazder, Yummy, it tasted fantastic with a giant Brezel and a beer.

Weihenstephan Biergarten: world's oldest brewery

by richiecdisc

I have now been to the world's oldest brewery twice. The first time was in the colder months on my own and the food, service and beer were great, but a bit pricey. My last visit was in the summer with Doreen and we sat in the shade of the chestnut trees in their beer garden. It is perched on a hill a bit of a walk from town but you get nice breezes up there. With the brewery in the background, it is a great setting for trying their many excellent beers. As with any real beer garden, you can bring your own food but theirs was very reasonable anyway. They had all of their beers on tap. The Pils is quite tasty as is their dopplebock. Prices for beer are very reasonable too at 5 Euros a liter!

Englischer Garten / Chinesischer Turm: a bit of China in the centre of Munich

by globetrott

The restaurant am Chinesischen Turm is first of all a giant beergarden around a relict of the good old days of the Bavarian kings.Between 1789-1791 it was made of wood and became soon a major tourist-attraction .today there will be a small orchestra sitting on the 1st floor of the tower (at least on a sunday and during summer) , performing oompta music for all the people sitting in the beergarden around the tower. Like in most of the beergardens, you may buy beer and food in seperate stands and carry it to your table. You may even bring your own food...

Café Krönner: Great torte in charming Kaffeehaus

by curiouslumi

It's about having your cup , or should I say a pot, of tea with style. Number of different teas and of course coffee is served as well. We had coffee and tea an it was special. I'm not a great dessert eater, but the cakes or rather tortes as they are called there, are irresitable. Not too sweet, and very well ... balanced? Tastes out of this world. It is relatively big place with several big rooms. All with reach decorations, real tapestry on the walls, mirrors, crystal candelabras and covered floors. It looks luxurious but prices are quite the same as in other places. Agnes Bernauer Torte.Nut meringue soil with a fine Mokkabuttercreme. Simply put - great.

Ratskeller München: A great traditional restaurant in Munich

by globetrott

Ratskeller in Munich, just inside the cellars of the "Neues Rathaus" am Marienplatz, far underneath the "Glockenspiel" (chimes)They have several larger and smaller siderooms, all of them furnished in a different, lovely way, with a really great athmosphere. There was a time, when I once had a side-job there, many years ago. They have a different menu every day and offer plenty of great local and international specialities.Reservation is normally not necessary, BUT it might be, if you are just 2 or 3 persons, you will be placed on a large table, where others are eating already.

Bavarian Basics 2: Zunge

by AnnaLupilla

In addition to heart and liver, tongue is counted among the most delicious bowels. Like heart and stomach, it mainly consists of myo-tissue, which has an extra-ordinary smooth and delicate flavor. Fresh, cured or smoked tongue is most of the times dressed steamed or stewed. The best tongues you can eat in Bavaria are those of beef, calf or lamb.

Bavarian Basics I: Soup of Leberknödel

by AnnaLupilla

Leberknödelsuppe is a traditional dish in the Bavarian cuisine. For the sake of completeness, I have to mention, that Leberknödel also are to be served in the German region of Palatinate (there they have a different name, I think), in Austria, South Tyrol and Czech Republic. Though, of course, you can get the best ones in Northern Bavaria. To produce them, most often the liver of the beef is being used, which then is minced in the meat grinder. The meat farce then gets linked with bread rolls, which before have to be macerated and squeezed, as well as egg and seasoned with marjoram. Then you roll the meat into dumplings sized about 6 cm diameter. You then cook them in beef broth. - DELICIOUS!!!

Gasthof Reinwand: This is the Germany you are looking for!

by widgt

This is the Germany, Germans look for; and Gasthof Reinwand is epicenter. This is not your sanitized tourist establishment; this is a hometown watering hole, no frou frou, just honest German village life. I lived in Sesslach while I worked in Coburg, I have traveled through and I have brought my soldiers here while I was stationed in Germany (and as far as can remember, we were almost in the movie "Luther"...but that is a bit of a drunken blur." Say hello to Angelica "Gay-lee", the proprietor and tell her Billy sent you. :O) And go see Wolfgang, Sesslach's phenomenal wood carver. Order the "Schnitzel nach Wiener Art mit Kartoffelsalat", traditional Farmers fare in this area. The beer, Oh the Beer! OK, to be honest the first is ...well, questionable (read as strong and hoppy), the second is delicious and by the third you are quoting Goethe and everyone’s best friend. The Hausgebrautes...

Elefantentreffen Campfire: Elefantentreffen Bavarian BBQ

by marco2005

Dining out at the Elefantentreffen is not a trouble, really. No reservation needed, and no dress code strictly observed (black tie is not mandatory). The restaurant is open from the morning till late at night. It has a dramatic view on the Bavaria Forest, and at evening is truely romantic (if you can date your beloved here). The cuisine is well known for its bbq specialities. There is always something on the grill that will water your mouth. The beer is always perfectly cooled off. Sometime you can find that the wine is too much cold, this is a problem with the restaurant cellar that is really low in temperature. (a usual joke here is to serve iced solid wine). At night the atmosphere becomes more informal and is realy easy to made some new friends here.

Baumeisterhaus: Rothenburg o.d.Tauber - a romantic place

by globetrott

I mainly was attracted by the unique fassade , but this place is also a great traditional restaurant and "Konditorei" with delicious homemade cakes and icecream ! Try some local food:Schweinsbraten mit Knödel und Krautsalat(roasted pork with dumplings and white cabbage-salad.)In general you may find 2 different kinds of dumplings that are served with meat :Kartoffelknödel - made of potatoesSemmelknödel - made of rolls and white bread (my favorites!!)
