Brauereigasthof Wagner-Brau: not sure of the fate of Wagner-Brau

by richiecdisc

I ate in this restaurant in 1997 and it had quite good food, and a very tasty dunkles beer. On this trip, it was closed on the day I was in town but I found a place up the street that also bore the same name. Not sure if it has moved or if there are two locations now. I didn't eat in the new place, the service was atrocious, the very worst I've ever had in Germany! Also, the once tasty dunkles beer has now been replaced by a unremarkable unilterd pils called Hohlen Trunk. Can't say I would rush back here for the beer or the service.

Zum Goldedenen Hirschen: Lunch in Lindenberg

by curiouslumi

Name of the place probably translates like "Golden Deer". We entered it for the building looked nice and special and we weren't dissapointed by interior as well. It is all about hunting - at least judging by the decorations which are real stuffed animals hanging from the walls everywhere. All wooden walls and furniture add to the charm. Nice waitress and good food. We had a fresh fish with potatos and a little salad plus black currant juce for lunch. (Or at least it tasted as a black current, that was very good anyway).Good value for money. Fast and friendly service.

Olympiaturm - Drehrestaurant: dining with a great view

by globetrott

Between 11.00a.m. and midnight you may have lunch , afternoon-tea or dinner in a revolving restaurant on top of the Olympiaturm.Just be aware of the fact that the tables at the windows are quite large ( maybe 6 or 8 seats on each table, when I remember correctely) and the good seats at the windows are hard to get.Make reservations as soon as possible !! The menu was quite big and prices were a bit more expensive that in the rest of Munich...... and it will also be hard to keep a place directely at the windows, when you just order a cheap drink...BUT where else will you be able to see the alps, while dining in a great restaurant ??

Tip Photo
Hofbräuhaus: In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus

by globetrott

Hofbräuhaus might even be the most famous restaurant / inn in the world."Hof" is the german word for the Royal court, and "Hof-Bräu" was the beer drunk at the court by the king and his guests, so it certainly was the very best beer in the country. There is a great restaurant on the 2nd floor , (in Europe we would call it 1st floor ;-) with great cuisine and of course the famous beer. Simply take these few steps upstairs for a great dining experience. If you just want to drink some beer, have a look for my next tip :Hofbräu - Schwemme

Biergärten

by tini58de

This is something that we really enjoy about München and Bavaria in general:the Biergärten (beer gardens) are all around, they are places to just sit, have a beer, watch people or to get to talk with them. The fun part is, that you are even allowed to bring your own food/picknick with you and just have the beer from the beer garden!

La Gelateria: The best ice cream I have ever eaten

Hofbrauhaus - Munich: I like to DRINK DRINK DRINK!

by Jehcekah

Fun. Fun. Fun. I am not a beer drinker, nor am I am big partier. However, I had a blast at the Hofbrauhaus. It is filled to the brim with tourists from all kinds of places (expect to see a lot of drunk Aussies). You can order a mass beer and a Bavarian pretzel and sit back and watch the roudiness. The band plays mostly English songs and there is plenty of opportunities for you to get up and do the chicken dance! Don't expect to get the best German food here or even the best service, but it shouldn't be missed. BEER! I especially liked the 1/2 lemonade, 1/2 beer...DELISH!

Gasthof zum Mohren: Typical bavarian restaurant

by tessy

Zum Mohren is a typical bavarian restaurant. On the menu, you get lots of the typical bavarian dishes. We have been there at about 3p.m. Usually, restaurants are closed at that time. But in bavaria, lots of the restaurants give you a warm meal even at that time.

Tip Photo
Ochsenbraterei: Ochsenbraterei on Oktoberfest

by globetrott

This is my favorite place to eat on Oktoberfest. Ochsenbraterei is one of the biggest traditional tents and it is famous for roasting a whole oxen . Have a look on my picture, everything might be easily watched by the customers. They will need more than 1 ox every day, and you may even have a look for a sign with the name of the ox, that was roasted and cut into pieces today...

Tip Photo
Hertie - Schmankerlgassn: Hmm, Schmankerl from Bavaria

by globetrott

Hertie Schmankerlgasse is in Schützengasse, just a few meters from Karlsplatz / Stachus with its own entrance through the underground-arcades. These shops and restaurants are built in the basement of Hertie-Departmentstore and offer a great variety of fresh food and great drinks. It is ment for shoppers and business-people with a short lunchbreak, as you are served quickly, pay right away, eat it there or take it away.Normally it is pretty full, but when I took the pic, it was closing and cleaningtime ( they are just open as long as the shop is !)
