be careful, when parking your car ! by globetrott Be careful, where parking your car on Schrannenplatz !! This is a sign, that I found on a public carpark, where a small part of it is reserved for the local people living in that area. The most confusing thing might be that you have parking-machines there, where you get a ticket untill 06.00p.m., but when you place your car in that restricted area, your parking-ticket will not help you at all !! "Bewohner mit Parkausweis" means . local people, who have a special licence to park there ! The rest of the day you may as well park there. b.t.w. This parking is the only one INside of the townwall, on Schrannenplatz, east of Klingentor. Leave a Comment

The last few steps to the tower of the townhall by globetrott The tower of the townhall offers a great view over the medieval centre of Rothenburg and its famous townwall that looks still almost the same as hundred of years ago... You may climb up plenty of regular steps untill you get to the very end, where you have to pay in order to take a look outside. The last few steps to the tower of the townhall are almost impossible to climb, as the last half meter you have no steps any more and have to get on your knees and do some tricks to get on the tiny panorama-platform. To climb up the tower is NO good idea for small children and non-sportive persons !! You cannot see anything there, except you climb outside !! When you click on my picture, taken by my fish-eye-lense, you may see the cashier and the dangerous steps. Leave a Comment

the tiny platform on top of the townhall-tower by globetrott Click on my picture and take a look at this small platform, where 2 people may not pass by each other, because it is just half a meter wide. In other places such a dangerous combination of a platform and terrible stair-case would NEVER have a chance to be open to the public. I saw plenty of people turning around, when they saw the final steps or simply could not find out how to get outside without having any steps for the last half meter. Don't ask ME, how I have managed to get there.... maybe simply by VT-addiction ;-)) On my picture : The panorama-view with Herrgasse and Franziskaner Kirche and Burg-Tor in the back. Leave a Comment

the tiny space for your retreat from the tower by globetrott On your way back from the panorama-platform of the tower, make sure, nobody is around, watching you. Of course you may sit down on the last step, put one foot on the trunk on the right, but then you have to get hold of the 1st of the steps, without beeing able to see anything. All of the wooden steps are slippery and not really deep enough to be un-dangerous, when you walk back. Each of the sides of this triangle is just about 80 cm wide, and for people beeing not really slim and sporty and well-trained.... ...it is a waste of time to get up there !!! Leave a Comment

Caution when walking in Rothenburg (and other older cities and villages) on the cobble stone and irregular surfaces of the streets, as you may trip and fall. Especially when one is paying attention to the local sights. Should you need it the Krankenhaus/hospital is at Ansbacher Str. 131 free call 09861 7 07-0 Phone: free call 09861 7 07-0

Driving in this town can be a little tricky! First - the streets were not designed for cars. Especially not our sweet E-class Mercedes. So, two way traffice does get a little tight in places. Navigating in the city is also a little difficult. It is not a very large place, but the gates and buildings within the town start to look the same after driving around while trying to find the hotel. Once you find a parking spot (ours was a small lot for the hotel), park the car and hide the keys.

Lovely by 15ilikestuff Watch out! Horses take tourists all across the city (if you don't see them, you'll definately smell them). Likewise, watch where you walk as they tend to excrete piles of urine and dung. It may be unappealing but it does add character to this medieval town. Leave a Comment
