The restaurant of Hotel Schiffmeister. Nice location in the heart of the small village of Schönau am Königssee, a few steps from the entrance of the Schiffmeister hotel.
Favorite Dish: Typical "Deutsche Gemütlichkeit". German cuisine at cheap prices.
It might sound like an exaggeration but this really is the best traditional restaurant in Bavaria. A totally authentic place hidden in the stunning but sometimes touristy town of Schoenau am Koenigssee.
Right at the foot of the Jenner, with goats tinkling their bells in the field beside, this restaurant serves up the widest selection of hearty German food and drink I've ever come across at great prices and in an authentic unpretentious setting.
Particularly recommended are the Almpfandl, the Schweinhaxe and the most delicious Spaetzle in Germany. The staff are friendly, the clientele are mostly cheerful "Stammtisch" regulars and the prices are really reasonable.
I could barely tear myself away from this place. After a day rowing on the Konigssee or climbing the Jenner, it was so nice to relax here with a Hefeweizen. Pop in for some late afternoon Kaffee und Kuchen and before you know it, you'll have spent the whole day there admiring the views, breathing in the fresh Alpine air and generally being a glutton on the excellent food and beer.
You'll not regret passing by this hidden Alpine gem. Head and shoulders above the other restaurants in the area and worthwhile making the trip to the Koenigssee for.
The name of this café-restaurant comes from the world-famous Echo of the Königssee. Location is perfect and idyllic: right at the border of the lake with a wooden terrace built over the lake. View of the mountains at 3 sides, the heart of the village at 1 side.
The restaurant is typical Bavarian style, it's a wooden chalet with Bavarian furniture, wooden beams, etc. Very typical.
Favorite Dish: Their fresh fish (of the Königssee) is delightful, so are their meat dishes. Seasonal specialties.
