Here is an excellent place for lunch or dinner. The "Ducal Brewpub," the flagship watering hole for the Tegernseer Hofbräu beer brewery, sits in a large building along the lake, a short walk from the center of town. You have the choice of sitting inside the cavernous beer hall, or outside on the terrace during good weather. Since it was indeed good weather, we chose the latter.
Favorite Dish: I tried the Bierbratl (oven fresh pork bellies with a crispy beer coating and beer sauce) with a tasty potato-cucumber salad. Sara thought she'd eat light and try the "Vegetarian Salad" with garlic bread. As it turned out, the salad was enormous and smothered in yummy mushrooms. I did notice she managed to eat it all, though.
Beer? Yes, they have beer. Very good beer. Choose from the ordinary Helles, the "Spezial," or the Dunkel, all served from the barrel. Weissbier fans can content themselves with the tasty Schneider Weissbier. All varieties of beer (except the Schneider) cost EUR 2.75 for a half-liter -- an excellent price for Bavaria. Traditionalists can get a 1-Liter "Mass" (EUR 5.50) on request.
