Kloster Gößweinstein by elgin99 In 1723 a Capuchin's monastery was donated in Gößweinstein. It was converted in 1828 into a Franciscan's monastery. With the resolution of the Hochstift Bamberg at beginning of the 19th century, Gößweinstein was annexed to the kingdom Bavaria. The church to the "Heilige Dreifaltigkeit" is dominating far away in Gößweinstein. It is a work of the famous baroque master builder Balthasar Neumann. Possibly around 1240 the first parish church was built in Gößweinstein. Still today numerous believers make a yearly pilgrimage to Gößweinstein. The small town counts as the most significant Trinity-place of pilgrimage in Germany. Leave a Comment

Created 1715, Rokoko, two palaces and nice trick fountains in historical area every full hour till 17th o´clock. (Not in late autumn or during winter time.) During summer there are performances in an old ruin. You can walk across for many hours, or have a rest in a good restaurant and another café. The old trees are fascinating, also you will be exciting about the hedges and flowers. The New Palace (Orangerie) is complete covered with many thousand of coloured glass stones. Fascinating in sunshine! Some more pictures are in my travelogue. Visit also the Old Palace (at time its under reconstruction), therein a funny fountain grotto. :)) Leave a Comment

Eagle's Nest by Jehcekah If you are looking for WWII sites and history, look no more. Take the English speaking Eagle's Nest Tour hosted by David Harper. You are driven in a mini-van all around Berchtesgaden while David shows you old Nazi sites, such as the train station and Hitler's personal platform, Hitler's Architect's house, Bormann's experimental farm, the location of Hitler's "Berghof" and the former sites of Nazi offical's homes. Your first stop is the museum and bunker system. David breezes you through the museum, only looking at Berchtesgaden-related information (you can use your ticket to come back again the next day to see the rest of the museum). Then you are led into part of the underground bunker system while he explains how and why they were built. You then board a special Eagle's Nest bus which drives you up the 27% grade mountain to the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest). You walk through the tunnel and take the brass elevator up to the top. David shows you the inside of the haus, which is not open to anyone who isn't on a guided tour. The building is now a restaurant whose proceeds go to charity. The view from the top of the mountain is amazing and there are plenty of opportunities for great pictures. We were lucky enough to be there on the very first day of it's unseasonably early opening. There was still mounds of snow on the ground. David's tour is the only licensed tour of the area, due to the fact that German's do not want to give Nazi sympathizers any pilgramiges to these sites. If you plan on going to the Eagle's Nest, you should take this tour. You will not be disappointed. The cost is 36,00 Euro per person and it includes all transportation and entrance fees. Inside Castle Gößweinstein by elgin99 This castle was supposedly founded 1076 by Count Gozwin from the house Höchstadt-Stahleck. Town and castle have a history full of change. Gößweinstein is one of the main places in Fränkische Schweiz and reachable from the B 470 (Wiesenttal). Gössweinstein lies in the heart of the nature reservat Fränkische Schweiz. The castle should have served Richard Wagner as a motive for his opera Parsival. Leave a Comment

Basilica Vierzehnheiligen by elgin99 Staffelstein, a wonderful town nearby Lichtenfels. Two very beautiful and interesting sightseeings. One of them is Basilica Vierzehnheiligen, also a pilgimage place. It´s the "most colorful" church I´ve seen. Light colors. The Abbot of Langheim let built with the chapel 1457, the new building started 1743 by Balthasar Neumann, the famous architect in Bavaria. A wonderful organ, impressive architecture, a special Basilica, indeed! It´s the church of the 14 Nothelfer (helper in need). It´s a monastery (Franziskaner) also today. Link is with viewer inside. Christmas at Basilica Waldsassen by elgin99 Waldsassen, what a nice town! Charming and centered in a beautiful landscape, only 5 km far from Czechian border (Eger). The Basilica was built in 1682-1704 by Dientzenhofer and Leuthner. One of the most great baroque churches of Bavaria. The crypt under the basilica counts as one of the biggest in Germany. The basilica is opened daily and all day of the year. The Jann organ of the basilica is one of the biggest organs of Europe (103 Register). To hear her sound is a special event, on Sunday, or in one of the famous concerts (mostly sold out). The former crypt for the Cistercian's monks under the basilica counts as one of the biggest monastery crypts of Germany and shows graves walls and indoor ways. She is accessible only to group guidances after advance reservation. From Gefell you need by car only few more than an half of hour to Waldsassen. So I´m often there in Waldsassen, also in the area of the second church Kappel (another tip), which is only a few miles far from it. And Holiday season without ine visit of Christmas market there or concert? No! Leave a Comment

Munich/Nymphenburg palace - Steinener Saal by globetrott It was on june 13th , 1763 that father Leopold Mozart came to Nymphenburg palace, accompanied by his son Wolfgang Amadeus, who was just 7 years old at that time and already well known for playing the piano... And of course Mozart had to play the piano in "Steinerner Saal", where lots of people could attend the performance of his music. The diary of mother Mozart still exists and she listed there all the various palaces of Nymphenburg : Amalienburg with the kitchen and bedrooms, Badenburg with a big hall of mirrors Bagotenburg the smallest of them Eremitage - (obviously Magdalenenklause) b.t.w. Nymphenburg is spelled differently in that diary : "Ninfenburg" Leave a Comment Directions: The picture is a detail of Steinener Saal on 1st floor (USA: 2nd floor )of the palace !
