Schloß Neuschwanstein

by tini58de

This is King Ludwig's most famous castle - and it really is a fairy-tale castle. Built only in the 19th century, it still looks like a medieval place. Only about a third of the building was actually completed. The 15 rooms you see on the tour show astonishing craftsmanship and richness of detail. Wagner's operas feature everywhere in the form of murals. The best view of the castle and a 45m waterfall is from the nearby Mary's Bridge (Marienbruecke), which spans a deep gorge. On the path between this bridge and the castle is a wonderful view of Hohenschwangau and the Alpsee. For more information, please have a look at my Schloß Neuschwanstein page.

Kloster Andechs

by tini58de

For over 500 years, the monks of Andechs have brewed their own beer, since 1455 to be exact. You can try these beers in the beergarden - which is very delightful! We once had a great VT meeting with habert62 there! In case you want to try the strong beer, you will have to visit during the week, because they don't serve it on the weekends (because of the danger of accidents)!!This traditional place of pilgrimage is situated on the "holy mountain", which lies on the eastern shores of the Ammersee and is visited by tourists from all over the world. Many of them also visit the beautiful Rococo monastry church which is the last resting place of the famous German composer Carl Orff.Opening hoursDaily 10.00 am - 8.00 pm.

Werdenfelser Land

by tini58de

The "Werdenfelser Land" is the beautiful alpine and pre-alpine area around Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Ettal, Oberammergau and Mittenwald, in front of the overwhelming scenery of the "Karwendel" and "Wetterstein" mountains. Highest peaks there are the "Zugspitze" (2.964 m) and the "Alpspitze" (2.628 m). Great area to go hiking!.

Ratisbon / Regensburg

by Leipzig

Regensburg is with its 143,000 inhabitants the fourth largest city in Bavaria and the capital of the governmental district of Upper Palatinate. When I served my military service I visited Regensburg frequently for shopping (quite expensive town but worth to visit)

Tip Photo
Berchtesgaden

by grayfo

The area known as Berchtesgadener Land enjoys an excellent climate. The town is set in beautiful Alpine scenery at the foot of the Watzmann, which is Germany's second highest peak. Berchtesgaden is also known worldwide for its Kehlsteinhaus, also known as Hitler's Eagle's Nest.

Tip Photo
Munich / München

by Leipzig

Munich is not merely the Oktoberfest, Lederhosen, BMW and Weissbeer, but a vibrant and rapidly growing metropolis with a charm of its own. The metropolis on the River Isar has again and again been the subject of many attributes linked to great expectations. For instance, Munich was long called 'Isar-Athens’ or ‘Italy’s northernmost city’ because of its southern awareness. Even today, Munich is a multicultural metropolis. Visiting Munich, enjoy a Bratwurst on Viktualienmarkt, a Mass (one litre) at the English Garden or just feel the multicultural atmosphere in the centre.

Tip Photo
Nuremberg / Nürnberg

by Leipzig

Nuremberg was first mentioned in 1050. In 1806 it became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria and flourished as an industrial centre. In the 1930's the city became a symbol of National Socialism and in 1945 the old town centre was heavy damaged by Allied air raids; in the 1950s rebuilt. Today, Nuremberg is with it's 480.000 inhabitants the second largest city of Bavaria and the capital of Frankonia.

Haidmühle

by Leipzig

This little town in the Bavarian Forest was found in 1770. It's situated near the Dreisesselberg (1312 m = 4304 ft) at an elevation of 830 m (2723 ft). In winter it's quite popular as a ski resort in the summer it is an ideal place for hiking.

Tip Photo
Würzburg

by Leipzig

The Celts founded Würzburg about 650 B.C. On this place you find Marienberg Castle on present day. Würzburg is surrounded by pleasant hillside vineyards and vast forests. Würzburg offers visitors numerous historic buildings of the Romanticism, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. The major sights are the Residenz Palace that today is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, and Marienberg Fortress, dominating the skyline and overlooking the beautiful Old Town. The centre attracts with cafes, romantic restaurants and lovely narrow streets with its small shops.

Tip Photo
Passau

by Leipzig

Passau is situated on the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers near the Austrian border and therefore it is called “Dreiflüssestadt” (Three Rivers Town). Passau has about 50,000 inhabitants, quite a lot of them are students. The town attracts with its beautiful Cathedral of St. Stephan. Best way to discover Passau is by ship or on foot. Passau is affected by annual flooding, mostly in spring but its citizens have learnt to life with the flooding.
