The Obereck chapel is also called Aussichtskapelle. From the chapel you have a good view over the Rosenheim area and the hills between the Inn river and the Chiemgau. If you are lucky you may see the TV tower in Munich on a clear day with your binoculars. This chapel is a must see and very popular.
The chapel is eightsided and features a late Gothic table painting from around 1515. Please note that some centuries ago the chapel was hit by lightening and you can still see the black streaks along both sides of the Maria if you look carefully. Luckily the panel survived whereas the chapel had to be reconstructed.

The high altar is early Baroque from 1642 and is originally from the parish church in Neubeuern. The altar painting of the ascension is only from 1831. The panel from the southern side altar dates back to around 1460/70 and is done like the panels in Salzburg from the mid 15th century.

This parish church has a spit helmet. The church dates back to the end of the 15th century but a reconstruction in 1923 gives it today’s appearance. From the old building you can still see the late Gothic choir with reticulated vaulting. But also here you will now find the new rokoko paintings like in the hall.

In the Rathaus (town hall) you will find the tourist office which has unfortunately rather limited opening hours. There is also a tiny postoffice in the building.
Postcards can only be bought at the one and only small but excellently stocked supermarket just round the corner. This is the only supermarket of the whole Samerberg!

This is the former house of the sacristan dating back to 1752, It was renewed in 1794. It’s one of the best examples of the Bavarian “Lüftlmalerei”. The Chiemgau region hasn’t got many old painted facades of buildings. Because of this the Schusterhäusl is so valuable with its rokoko and louis-seize mix of paintings.
