Favorite thing: Residenz Palace – The Residenz Palace is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, considered to be Germany's best example of Baroque architecture and one of the most ornate palaces in all of Europe. Built in the mid 18th century, among the many beautiful things in this massive palace are the hall of mirrors (echoes of Versailles!) and the frescoes by the great Venetian baroque artist, Giovanni Tiepolo, including the world's largest ceiling painting

Favorite thing: Terminus of the Romantic Road, WÜRZBURG straddles the River Main some 60km north of Rothenburg, and can be reached either by bus from there or by train from Nürnberg, Augsburg or Munich. During the night of March 16, 1945, it got the same treatment from Allied bombers that Nürnberg had received two months earlier. Würzburg has been less successful in rebuilding itself, but a number of outstanding sights and the town's location among a landscape of vineyards easily justify a visit.
Bracketed by the river and the Residenz, the old town is focused on the Marktplatz, where a daily food market ensures a lively bustle. It is called the Oberer Markt. You can find spices, candy, bread, bakery items, schnitzels, fruit, veggies, meats, cheeses, etc.

Favorite thing: You really must see the 'Festung Marianburg' in Wurzburg. I saw somewhere on this site that a lady called it the 'Residence'. I am sorry but she is wrong. The 'Residence' palace is downtown Wurzburg and is surrounded by city.
The 'Festung Marianburg' is located atop the hill overlooking the Main river and the view includes the whole city of Wurzburg. Festung Marianburg is surrounded with a magnificent vineyard, and walk trail.
The 'Residence' is an absolute must also. It is a palace that is located in downtown Wurzburg. I will be posting pictures and more information at a later date.
Fondest memory: Fondest memory of Wurzburg: My son was born in the U.S.Army Hospital in Wurzburg Germany!

Favorite thing: You must visit the Residenz. It is a castle on the hill overlooking the Main River surrounded by grape vineyards...it is a must!
Fondest memory: My daughter was born in Wurzburg in 1987 while I was in the Army. I was too stupid to appreciate my surroundings at the time but on my return trip I was astonished at the beauty of the countryside and the courtesy of the people.
