Burggaststätte of Marienberg / Wuerzburg by globetrott, 4 more photos Burggaststätte is a great, traditional restaurant in the central innercourt of Marienberg castle, opposite of the Brunnenhaus and Marienkirche. It is nice to sit outside on the terrace but maybe even better to sit inside and enjoy the special atmosphere of the old halls with arches and vaults.
I just had a glass of local wine : Frankenwein is world-famous and a must when in Wuerzburg. Mostly it is served in a "Bocksbeutel" a special kind of bottle, that you will find only in Franken ! Whenever you are in a german or austrian town with a big townhall, take a look for the restaurant there, because 98% of all townhalls have their own restaurant, called "Ratskeller". In most cases the food is excellent ( the "government" of the town always knows what is best for them) and also the interior is very special, neo-gothic or Jugendstil etc. I was lucky to be able to take a look into some of the various side-rooms with great and interesting interior, see also my other pics ! Leave a Comment Theme: LocalComparison: about averageDirections: Ratskeller is in the basement of the townhall of Wuerzburg, you will get there, when crossing the old Main-bridge, its 100 meters on the left !Website: http://www.ratskeller-wuerzburg.de/

First of all this great restaurant is next to the old bridge over the river Main and it has terraces facing the river (see my main pic!). From these terraces you will see the castle Marienberg like in pic. #4. I did not eat inside their restaurant, but simply ordered some of their sausages to take away, conveniently "packed" in a crispy roll, see my 2nd picture. On my 3rd picture you can see the counter, where to order these sausages, they come freshly roasted from the charcoal-grill and will help you to be strong enough to climb up the steps to Marienberg ! ;-) Click on their web-page and you will hear the sound of the river Main !

weinhaus zu stachel by civilian Weinhaus zum Stachel The “Weinhaus zum Stachel” is one of the oldest local winehouses in Wuerzburg. Located in a small sideway in the heart of the city it is the perfect place to relax after a long day. In summer you can sit outside in a very nice garden . In summer it is wise to make a reservation.
I tried several dishes and all of them where very well done. You find also simple franconian dishes like “blaue Zipfel” ( better not to be translated) , a Bratwurst, boiled in wine – and a very nice selection of wine from local winemakers. Not cheap – but quality, price and the great garden make it a good place. They have the menue also in english Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: city centerDirections: It’s a bit hidden close to the Marienkapelle beside the Tourist information. Most locals can tell you the way

Vineyards by Cristian_Uluru Wurzburg is famous for its wines. When you arrive here by car the first thing that you can notice are the vineyards on the hills. This region has got many wine cellars where you can stop to taste it. Leave a Comment Theme: Wine Bar/Wine Tasting

The town hall by MEdelmann This is the town hall of W?rzburg. It looks lovely. I put it into the restaurant tip section, because there is a restaurant in the basement. During the warm season it is also possible to sit on a terrace in front of the town hall. Very nice!
I had a coffee here and it tasted very well. They also have some good pastries, but I didn´t try them because I had a delicious meal in Tauberretsheim some time before. Leave a Comment

The "Backöfele" is a restaurant with atmosphere. Everyone I've taken there felt comfy right away. The food is yummy, they serve local dishes of very good quality. Vegetarians will surely find something as well. With the food enjoy some typical wine from the vineyards around. The setting is also very unique - check out the website and go to Restaurant from there to the different rooms. For me it's a bit like stepping back in time and entering a typical bavarian place 100 years ago. They also have a nice courtyard where you can sit outside.
The onion soup is the best ever. Give it a try and find out for yourself. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Ursulinergasse 3Phone: +49 (0) 931 - 5 90 59Directions: town centreWebsite: www.backoefele.de

Jubilinger Restaurant is located about 3 km far from the downtown of Wurzburg. This restaurant is quite close to Post Hotel. Here you can taste good Bavaria cousine. I can suggest to try the entrecote with salad, chips and beer!!! A cons: they don't accept credit card. I found this restaurant by chance the evening I arrived in Wurzburg. The restaurant of the Post Hotel was close so I went there. In this restaurant you can breath a family atmosphere and the cook is very friendly. There you can taste good Italian dishes. Becky quaffing a beer by zrim If you have read my introductory page, you already know that one of my great joys in life is to sit in a beergarden at a castle or monestary after having toured the grounds. This place was the first of what I hope is many such interludes.
Beer, of course! Leave a Comment Theme: Pub/BreweryPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: top the hill, inside castle walls, can't miss it
