Alte Mainmuehle: Amazing Location
azcanyondreamer profile photo

On a balcony over looking the Main River, the Alte Bruecke and the Feistung Marienburg, how can you beat that? Make sure to plan ahead and get a reservation for a table outside on the balcony (preferably the upper), otherwise you may be out of luck. The wines of the Main River Valley are outstand, personal favorites are the white, silvaner and the rieslings. The ambiance and the location are the biggest point getters of this place but the food is wonderful as well.

Favorite Dish: Start with a Hefe hell and the Cream of Asparagus soup and then go for the pork shoulder! Melts in your mouth.

Weinstein: Overrated

Weingut am Stein has a restaurant on their property that is overpriced and a little to wild and crazy for their own good. The food was interesting to say the least. Confused might be a better word. Asian-Fusion, German, ???

We ordered the prix fix menu...the wine was good! That is about all I can say about the food is that the wine was good. There was a good piece of meat in the mix of it all.

Favorite Dish: Pass and find something that feels a little more local and established in what it is trying to do as far as a menu goes.

bella Napoli De Luigi: Best Italian in Wurzburg
davidr75 profile photo
davidr75 2 reviews

This rstaurant is small inside and always busy. It is tastfully decorated in a semi-casual/semi-formal style. During the warm months they have several tables outside. You can see the fortress in one direction and an old churcgh inthe other. This is the best way to dine here.

Favorite Dish: I have never had a bad dish. Ask the waiter, Mimi speaks English, Italian and German, what fish they have and he will bring one out for you to see. The pastas are all great and the Veal (Kalb) Shnitzel in the lemon sauce is the best. I usually get something from the Tageskarte (daily specials). My wife likes to get the Duette Pasta, which is 2 diffrent pastas and sauces. Tell them Robert sent you. (My name is actually David, but when I first moved here I made several reservations in my best broken german and reserved them in my last name, Roberts, they have been calling me Robert ever since.)

Nikolaushof: Best view and nice food!
laughing_lioness profile photo
laughing_lioness 23 reviews

The Nikolaushof is on top of the hill overlooking the river Main and Würzburg so you will have a great view if you make sure to book a table that is not too far in the backyard.

The Nikolaushof has several restaurants - the Seegarten being the more expensive one.

For everyone coming for a visit in summer I definitely suggest the Biergarten. There they serve reasonably priced beergarden dishes.

Attention: Closed on Mondays and all January!!!!

Backöfele: regional dishes and wine

The "Backöfele" is a restaurant with atmosphere. Everyone I've taken there felt comfy right away. The food is yummy, they serve local dishes of very good quality. Vegetarians will surely find something as well. With the food enjoy some typical wine from the vineyards around.

The setting is also very unique - check out the website and go to Restaurant from there to the different rooms. For me it's a bit like stepping back in time and entering a typical bavarian place 100 years ago.

They also have a nice courtyard where you can sit outside.

Favorite Dish: The onion soup is the best ever. Give it a try and find out for yourself.

Julispital: Eat and drink local fare!
davidr75 profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

davidr75 2 reviews

This is a great place to eat and enjoy an evening. It is a 5 minute walk from the Bahnhof on the juliusprommenade. The restaurant is part of a hospital for the elderly and part of the proceeds from the restaurant go directly to help fund the hospital.

The restaurant offers great fish, some raised in their own pond, awesome local wines (the domina is the best) and authentic franconian dishes (the schnecken is the best I have ever had).

The atmosphere is busy and quite loud but will not distract you from the wonderful food. this is one of my favorite places to eat in Wurzburg.

Favorite Dish: Schnecken followed by the veal steak with a bottle of their best Domina.

Hubland: Great Greek Food
thetnical profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

thetnical 1 reviews

A delightful restaurant near the University. The pricing is very reasonable 10-12 euro per person. The garlic potatoes that come with most meals are wonderful, and the dipping sauce is even better. English and German menus are available. There is a glodfish pond in the middle of once section of the restaurant, and statues in the middle of the other. The Beer Garden is wonderful.

Favorite Dish: My favorite dish is the Leg of Lamb with Spinach. The boneless meat is served in a caseroledish and coverd in melted cheeses and spices.

Weinhaus Zum Stachel: You're in the Romantic Road now

Courtyard

Weinhaus Zum Stachel is tucked away on a small street just off the main square, serving traditional German dishes (request a special English menu if you have to). The building is very old and a romantic setting (especially in the gorgeous vine drapped courtyard). In fact, the restaraunt had the best atmosphere out of all the ones I dined in during my trip. The food portions are large, and taste pretty good (not great). They also have a large wine list from wines produced from the local vineyards. Make sure you reserve a table outside in the summer and be prepared, sometimes other parties will sit with you (so you might want to clear this up in the reservation process). For us it was a good thing, as we met a great couple who knew everything about the area. Though the food is only "okay" the surroundings make up for it in a big way.

weinhaus zu stachel

Weinhaus zum Stachel

The “Weinhaus zum Stachel” is one of the oldest local winehouses in Wuerzburg. Located in a small sideway in the heart of the city it is the perfect place to relax after a long day. In summer you can sit outside in a very nice garden . In summer it is wise to make a reservation.

Favorite Dish: I tried several dishes and all of them where very well done. You find also simple franconian dishes like “blaue Zipfel” ( better not to be translated) , a Bratwurst, boiled in wine – and a very nice selection of wine from local winemakers. Not cheap – but quality, price and the great garden make it a good place. They have the menue also in english
