Welcomed by my sister by joernme As you can see I always enjoy arriving at our sweet little international airport (Hamburg is bigger, but you bigger is not always better ;-), especially when being picked up after long stays abroad, here you see me with my sister. Not everybody is crying though when I'm coming back, sometimes some people are also happy about it ;-) So Bremen has an international airport, but destinations are pretty much limited to Europe. Most intercontinental flights into Germany will lead your way to Frankfurt, from there you either take connecting flights or start your Germany tour by car or train. Bremen Airport has excellent connections with downtown. Just take the streetcar and you will be right in the center of Bremen in just 20 mins. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Although Bremen has its own airport, when flying from Manchester we had to fly into Hamburg and take the train to Bremen. Hamburg's airport is not yet linked to the city's main train station (a situation due to be remedied) so till then it's necessary to take a bus into town. If city centre Hamburg is not your destination, then shuttle bus number 110 from the airport takes you to the nearest U-bahn station, Ohlsdorf. We took the Jaspar Airport Express bus, which provides a direct link to Hamburg's Hbf every 15 minutes. Journey time is about 25 minutes and a return ticket in 2006 cost 8 euro. Buy your tickets at the desk in Arrivals of Terminal 2 right before you exit the building and the bus arrives out front. Once at Hamburg Hbf we were able to buy our train tickets and were soon on the sleek ICE train for a journey which only took an hour and cost 20 euro each for a single ticket. Coming back as we did on a Sunday, we were able to buy a Schoenes-Wochendende (happy weekend) ticket on which all five of us were able to return to Hamburg on the same ticket for only 30 euro. The German trains website is superb with multilingual pages: www.bahn.de. Leave a Comment

Flew into Bremen with Ryanair, spotted Air Berlin flights there also. Easy to get to / from, tram #6 stops outside and runs into the city centre, excellent! Unusually there is a viewing area here too, not many flights to watch for us unfortunately. Leave a Comment

We travelled by train from Bremen to Diepholz and beyond. We bought a Niedersachsen Tageskarte for just 26E (or 13E each) which can be used for up to 5 people for the entire day, all over the region until 3am the next day - a real bargain as we had a lot of travelling to do that day and it saved us a small fortune in fares! This is a central station and as well as local trains, you can catch an IC train to many other German cities including Hamburg, Magdeburg, Berlin etc, and also Schiphol (Amsterdam!). Through the Deutsche Bahn website it is now possible to book AND print your tickets in advance of your trip. Check the website for details. Leave a Comment

The tram (number 6) from the airport runs every couple of minutes, costs just 2.10E and is the most convenient method of transportation to the city centre. Once you are in the city, look out for them when crossing the roads! If you come from a city that doesn't have trams, they can catch you unawares as they come round corners and from every direction and have you running for the safety of the pavement! :) Leave a Comment

Bremens main train station by Bernd_L Bremen can be easily reached by train from all parts of Germany. And its main train station is already one of Bremens sightseeing spots because of its nice architecture. Leave a Comment

Going to Bremen by train is the best option. One has to buy the Niedersachsen ticket (single or group of five person) which is the cheapest option for a day trip. For a group ticket one has to pay 28 euros for round trip. So 28 Euros for 5 persons is just cool. It takes 1 hour 20 minutes from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof to Bremen hauptbahnhof. Theme: Train

by Rupanworld If anybody plans to travel by tram around the important tourist attractions of Bremen, the important trams are number 2 and 3 and the stoppages to look for are Obernstrasse and Domsheide. At Obernstrasse, you get down for the Town Hall, Ratskeller, Roland Statue, Schuetting (Guildhall), the statue of the Town Musicians, the Haus der Buergerschaft (Parliament), the Am Markt square, Church of our lady and the Stadtwaage Arts Centre and at Domsheide, one has to get down for the St. Peter's Cathedral, Boettcherstrasse, Carillon, St. Martin's Church and the Schnoor quarter. However, the two areas are so undemarkable that one hardly needs to travel by tram at all, if not for curiosity sake. Theme: Other

walking around Bremen and discovering its beautiful buildings, heritage sites and all other tourist attractions is the best option. Most of the tourist attractions are concentrated in one single place, the market square which is just 10 minutes walk from the main train station. Theme: Other
