Harry's Hafenbasar is a mixture of a museum and a shop and in fact you have at first to pay an entrance-fee of 2,50 euros, that will be deducted twice, when you buy something. Obviously the owner had a lot of problems with tourists just browsing instead of buying anything.
The collection of the basar started with the souvenirs that were taken home by the sailors from overseas, who needed some money for the expensive shore-leave at the Reeperbahn...
The basar is at the corner of Balduinstraße & Erichstraße 56
just about 100 meters behind the colorful houses of Hafenstrasse
Harry's Hafenbasar is open for visitors :
Sunday till Thusday 12.00 noon - 10.00p.m.
Friday+Saturday: 12.00 noon till midnight
and upon appointment !
Hamburg has a lot of museums. It's very good for a rainy day! Why don't you visit the Galerie der Gegenwart? It's an museum for contemporary art. Beside the Galerie der Gegenwart you can find the Kunsthalle, where you can find old art.
In that Hamburg´s a big city it is a shame that there isn´t much of modern art here. Visit the museum 'Kunst der Gegenwart' (beneath trainstation), there´re some nice paintings, but don´t expect too much...
