by nepalgoods This "Haus der 131 Biere" is the right place to go, to buy your beer for your private party. It is not a club or bar, it is just a shop, where you can buy the beer, that you miss from home. Here they seel beer from all over the world. Herbertstrasse is the most famous place for men to go "windowshopping" or mostly just "window-browsing" This street is fenced at both sides with high walls and when you are looking at the poster in the middle of that fence in my 1st picture, you may read : Fuer mehr Vorspiel - some sort of a pun, that I cannot really explane, because I am not really an expert for football ;-p
There is NO dresscode, BUT Women are absolutely forbidden to step behind that fence, maybe for the fact that there are aready lots of women behind the windows... Photography is absolutely forbidden INside these fences as well and I may not recommend to try it anyway - these people don't have a lot of humor when it comes to Photography Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Hamburg - HerbertstrasseDirections: Many ways are going to Herbertstrasse : U3: St. Pauli, S1, S2, S3: Reeperbahn. Walk along Davidstrasse from Davidwache to the port and Herbertstrasse is on right after 150 meters.

this street is Gr.Freiheit, NOT Reeperbahn ! by globetrott, 4 more photos Grosse Freiheit #7 was the most famous movie of Hans Albers and at the time that the movie was made, this adress did not exist at all, because the movie was made mainly in the studios. Shortly after that big success someone had the clever idea to rename one of the nightclubs at Grosse Freiheit to "Grosse Freiheit Nr.7" Most people who see pics of the small street called "Grosse Freiheit" confuse it with Reeperbahn... At the opposite side of Reeperbahn you will see a small monument of Hans Albers at Hans-Albers-Platz, just a place to remember the "blonde Hans" , a very tall, slim man from Hamburg, who became famous because of his extra-blue eyes and his special voice, that you could recognize immediately and his great way to sing seamen-shanties... b.t.w.: Grosse Freiheit (Big Freedom) has nothing to do with sexual freedom, BUT rather with certain liberal rights that craftsmen were granted in that area hundreds of years ago. They were not forced to join the unions of craftsmen like in the rest of the country.
NObody cares for your dress, they care a lot for your money though ! Leave a Comment Theme: Adult SpotAddress: Hamburg - Grosse FreiheitDirections: There are various possibilities to get to Grosse Freiheit : U3: St. Pauli, S1, S2, S3: Reeperbahn

the film set by alza I got a few warnings about this area but I ended up being sent there by the Youth Hostel, which was full. It was lively & fun, especially at night, full of young people, eateries, jazz clubs, bars, all services a traveller might need (photo shops, launderettes, department store, etc.) I met a guy who lives in St. Pauli. He gave me useful tips & assured me it was very safe. Turned out it was. He did mention one street that I should avoid but that street is actually hidden behind huge boards & they only let men in. My car was parked around the corner for 3 days -- I never had a problem. On the square where this pic was taken, there's a large round kiosk selling the best sausages, french fries & all sorts of other goodies, very cheap. You can eat as you mix with the friendly crowd. Everyone seemed relaxed & happy. Overall, I had a great feeling being there. VT member nepalgoods told me that the police station pictured here has been used countless times in movie sets. The whole square is so atmospheric, it's unreal.

Photo borrowed from the web by Mariajoy Everyone knows or has heard of the Reeperbahn... every big city has one, particularly big port cities.... it's the red light district of Hamburg. Neon lights advertising sex shops selling sex toys and fetish gear, sex cinemas, "live" sex shows, clubs, lap dancing, strippers, etc etc etc.... if that's what you want, this is where you get it. It's tacky and sleazy (of course) and, to be honest, it all seemed a bit sad and pathetic on a chilly night in April, there were just a few blokes hanging round door ways, more in the hope of getting warm than getting lucky.

One of the central places on the "Kiez" with various bars and pubs around. Several possibilities to sit outside. Different music from everywhere, on friday and saturday night always totally crowded, mostly with "tourist"-party people, but the locals are as well mixed up with them.

at daylight, just a part by chancay At daytime it is just a busy street here, part of the city center, but at night it changes to one of the famoust party miles of the world, a mixture of red light district and a lot of old tradiotional harbour pubs and several newer bistros and pubs and as well several discos. by hundertmorgen If you want to discover Hamburg's night life you can't avoid St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn. No, we're not talking about stripshows or notorious establishments, but about truly trendy party venues. The Kiez, Hamburg's entertainment district centred on the Reeperbahn, is definitely the place to be! From typical St. Pauli bars on Hans-Albers-Platz to chic upper-class clubs, night-owls will find simply everything they're looking for.
