Our weekend in Hamburg was great : particularly our visit to the Shamrock in the centre of town. The staff were friendly, the music and atmosphere brilliant. Over twenty years old, this is a nice original bar without the usual fake crap that adorns some of the more modern "theme" bars that have sprung up all over hamburg in the past years. Opens a little late (7pm I think), but you can sip away until the early hours.

This disco at the Reeperbahn has two dance floors. On the upper you have a long bar and music of the 80s is played (at least when I was here). On the groundfloor a live band playes on a stage in front of a dance floor. There is also a bar and you also can sit outside and watch the people dancing.

Thomas Reeds Irish Bar is where we went for our drink which has a friendly atmosphere and most of the bar staff are Irish.
It is very different from the UK and I found everybody friendly and helpful.
