    Cap San Diego, Hamburg

On the river front near Landungsbrucken you can find the old world cargo ship Cap San Diego moored on the Elbe (assuming it's not gone on one of its rare world tours). It used to be a wreck, a run down tramp trader, but it has been restored to its former glory. It's actually only about 50 years old, but its style harks back to an earlier age. It looks like something out of a Humphrey Bogart movie.

Fittingly it's now a museum, but you can also book a room there: It doubles as an unusual hotel.

Cap San Diego is a huge museum ship that originally operated out of Hamburg. It would still be usable, but because of it's age it is now fixed at the port of Hamburg and serves as a museum.

It is a very interesting place and gives you an insight on how it used to look like on a commercial ship a few decades ago.

Particularly interesting is the engine room.

There is an entrance fee of 6 Euros per person (4 Euros for holders of a student ID or holders of the "Hamburg Card", 2.50 Euros for kids below 14).

The web site of Cap San Diego (link below) is only in German.
