    Elbtunnel

If you go by car to Hamburg and you come from the south there is a high possiblilty that you have to go through the (new) Elbtunnel, an impressive building that crosses under a big part of hamburg harbour. There are still construction works for a 4th way, until the end of these works you often ahve to accept a lot of traffic jam on your way to or through Hamburg.

.The port of Hamburg Situated on the river Elbe. It is the third largest port in Europe (after the Port of Rotterdam and Port of Antwerp) and tenth largest worldwide.
We got there from Bremen 105km along A1 autobahn. It took us about an hour and a half.
You may see - a multilevel crossroads near Hamburg at the photo.

Hamburg can easily be reached by car. Autobahns 1, 7, 23 and 24 are heading to Hamburg. In town are alot of parking problems. If possible park outside and use public transport.

The photo shows the Autobahn 7 and the tunnel beneath the Elbe River.

There is an international airport in Hamburg as well as a large train station in the center of the town. Getting there is absolutely no problem !!
Forget about your car. The city is very pleasant to walk and the public transportation very efficient. You would only need a car if you want to drive through the impressive Elbtunnel or some of the bridges over the Elbe. But beware with traffic jams ! I remember being stuck in front of the Elbtunnel once for two hours !!

It is necessary to cross a mouth of Elba to get into the city by car. I waited for the big bridge through the river, but I was mistaken, the road has passed in a tunnel under Elbe.
