Market Square in Freudenstadt

by hunterV

Walking about Market Square in Freundenstadt, "A City of Joy" in the Black Forest area. There are special points of attraction at two of the corners of the market square: the town hall and the Evangelical town church. The church was built in the 17th century in the form of an angle. The altar is in the middle part of the church and the congregation looks towards it from two directions. They say this division was used as a way of strictly segregating the sexes during services.Other places of interest in Freudenstadt are:~ Museum of Local Art and Crafts;~ The Spa and Congress Center;~ The “Bird” fountain on the market place;~ The “Venus of Freudenstadt”;~ The Kurhaus;~ The “Kurbaehnle”

Recycling

by Gili_S

In Germany they are expert in recycling. Each house or building has several garbage cans for different garbage. Glass, metal, papers etc all collected separately and can be recycled. The whole processes is surely more expensive then just dump it all but if you want to keep your country clean, that is the way.

the charming city of Paderborn

by vairab

Situated at the heart of Germany, midway between the Northern Lowlands and the mountainous central region, the charming city of Paderborn is full of many diverse and delightful attractions. The city’s wider community extends across eastern North-Rhine Westphalia and encompasses a catchment area of half a million people, the majority of whom live in the more rural outlying villages. There are 139,00 inhabitants (as recorded in February 2003) living within the city, many of which moved to Paderborn during the last thirty years. The city has numerous qualities to tempt the visitor. With over 1200 years of history to its credit, it is steeped in historical tradition which has shaped the cityscape. The many parks and green spaces beginning right by the shopping precinct at Pader Springs are much appreciated by city-dwellers and visitors alike. Despite the recent modernisation and expansion of...

Immediately step down from the train, alas ! very coooold, the weather in München is killing me. A few German's pedestrian looking at with question mark face ' Pitty to you boy, you are shivering like hell !! ' . I'm thinking ' Right place at the wrong time ! Photo : Second Year in Germany. Bier

by AcornMan

Germans take beer very seriously. For over 800 years the brewing of beer has been regulated in one form or another, beginning in 1165 when a fine was levied in Augsburg for serving "inferior" beer. Today German beer is still governed by the Reinheitsgebot, or the German Beer Purity Law of 1516, the world's oldest consumer protection law still in enforcement. The law forbids beer to be brewed using any ingredients other than barley, hops, yeast, and water.

Gummi Bears

by AcornMan

One of the best things about Germany is the candy, especially gummi bears. Haribo Goldbaren are my favorite and although they are sold in the U.S., if you look closely you'll see that they are actually made in Spain. Only in Germany can you get the real thing. It may seem really picky, but there really is a difference between the German ones and the Spanish ones even though the bags are identical.
