by dr.firas

Truly the equipments on this clinic are super modern!I was very happy to check the top of the Dental service in a Civilized Country like Germany! All those laser apparatus and computers; it's not that we could not have it for example in Syria! But it's luxury! And you really have to be a wealthy Doc. to allow yourself buying such stuffs!

Lovely wooden handicrafts, all over Germany

by 850prc

Many of the small shops of Deutschland have a large selection of small wooden handicrafts for home decorations. They're what we, in the US, like to call "knick knacks".A lot of these are themed towards Christmas, so it's a great opportunity to pick up a bunch of cute little Christmas decorations for increasing the holiday spirit around your home come December. Shopping in the tiny villages almost always yields something of interest. You can spend an afternoon doing this, and you won't deplete your wallet. And, these are great little keepsakes to take home to your friends who weren't fortunate enough to be visiting Germany. Lucky you!

A Cruise up the Rhine Gorge

by Paul2001

Probably one of my favourite experiences in Germany was my Rhine cruise. For most people such a journey means traveling by boat from the town of Bingen down river to the city of Koblenz. It is much more practical to take the route in this direction as because the Rhine has a strong current, a trip in the opposite direction is more time consuming. Knowing this in advance, I took the train from Koblenz, where I was staying, a picked up the boat in Bingen(a mildly interesting town). The cruise from Bingen to Koblenz takes about three hours. This journey is made through the stunning Rhine gorge. A guide on my boat gave out information on each sight in English as we passed them along the river. The scenery along the wooded gorge is fantastic. You pass picturesque little towns on the river banks and awesome castles that sit high on the slopes of the gorge. It is possible to hop of the boat at...

Lindau

by Paul2001

Lindau is a superb base for those wishing to tour the region around the Bodensee. The town itself sits on a small island just of the shoreline of the Bodensee. It is connected to the mainland by a causeway by which trains and buses reach the island. The town has numerous sights that are worth visiting such as the Mangturn, the Altes Rathaus (the old town hall) and the regional museum. I highly recommend that if you visit Lindau that you book your hotel room in advance. I managed to get the last room available in town by way of the tourist office. The harbour is a great place to stroll around and relax while watching the cruise ships stream in and out.

Student ID Card

by Weissdorn

Who cares if you don't have an American Express Platinum Card, when you have a Student ID? In you can get more out of a valid Student ID than you can with an AMEX card. Provided you're under 26 years of age, you can get all kinds of discounts with this card, including entrance fees to all sights that charge admission, cheap university lodging, and most of all super discounts on train travel! You can even get discounts on some concerts, and cover charges in night clubs. Reading some of the some of the city magazines. It used to be in some major cities, like Frankfurt, you could not only get in to clubs cheaper on certain days as students, you also got a discount on drinks!

The Rhine is the Father of German Wine

by Weissdorn

Outside of Germany, German Wine is underrated because most of the better quality wines never exit the country. Sipping a glass of Liebfraumilch from your supermarket and thinking that this is one of Germany's wines is comparable to thinking that McDonald's is haute cuisine. Germany has an large variety of wine (not just from grapes, either) in dozens of areas, and you would need about a year to go from place to place just to try the better tasting ones. Visiting a winery is worthwhile. Not only can you buy a quality wine you won't get in a German supermarket, you will get a better price, too. In a winery near Worms, I once bought Eiswein and got it for 80% savings over wine dealer prices. You can buy wine cheaper directly in the wineries, because there's no middleman!

Country Life for Families

by Weissdorn

In recent years, the tourist industry has started to specialise for family vacations, since German families with young children are looking for 4 things:a) In Germany, if possible b) Special activities & babysitting for kidsc) Low costd) During school vacation (holidays)So now there are a number of resorts available for families, including Farm Stays, Kids Camp, and Sport Camps. Out in the country the Germans understand that kids like to run, jump, scream and play, and the "Bauernferienhof" is a paradise for kids. They are especially oriented towards family vacations, and have special activities for childrens, such as caring for farm animals, pony riding, hay-wagon rides, barbeques, arts and crafts and other activities.

Attraction for Centuries

by Weissdorn

Bathing in Germany has been popular ever since the Romans were here. Germany can boast of 363 "Kurorten" or towns where you can take a wellness vacation. In fact, the Romans brought the wellness or "cure" concept to Germany. The multitude of wellness applications available is astounding. They have everything from bathing in special mineral water, to mud packs, moore torf packs, sitting in drafty caves, high altitude resorts, seaside resorts, fresh air resorts, hay-packing, Bach flower treatment, and Kneipp cures, just to name a few. Visiting a saline silo, or a "Salinen" or a "Gradierwerk". This is a wooden scaffolding built about 4-5 meters high, with roofing over the top of it. There is a walk platform around the scaffolding. The scaffolding is filled with thousands of birch branches and mineral water is pumped in a trickle-down fashion through the birch branches. This leaves a...
